Cord Blood Donation

Hi All,

I am interested in donating my baby's cord blood, and have found that the HK Red Cross accepts cord blood donations from only Kwong Wah, Prince of Wales, QE and Pamela Youde hospitals only. I am delivering at Matilda though - is there another cord blood donation service available?

Thanks.

No I looked into this as well. Unless you pay transport+ other fees for them to come and collect and you have to give birth during office hours. Ie. They won't come if you're givin birth at 9 pm.

that's a shame...i looked into the matching program at cryolife and there are a lot of up front fees to pay. you only get reimbursed if your baby's cord blood profile matches to someone's profile in need.

I'm giving birth at Prince of Wales- do I need to arrange this with the Red Cross ahead of time or is it something I just tell them at the hospital? Seems like a great thing to do especially if there are such few hospitals that do it!

Hi, I gave birth in PWH two years ago and the doctor asked me if I'd like to donate cord blood right after I gave birth. I just said yes and signed the paper and it's been done. Another baby's coming this November and hopefully I can do the same with my second baby too :)
