Hi
We are looking at going with the Cord Blood banking option. Can some one recommend a good agency in Hong Kong.

Hi, it depends on where you are from. If you're not from HK, it might be an idea to choose somewhere that has a storage facility in your home country so when you leave it can be transferred. Many of the companies here have facilities in Sing, UK, Australia etc.

If you are going to stay in HK, it may be feasible to opt for a facility based in HK as there may be difficulties shipping the cord blood in in times of emergency. I have chosen Healthbaby. Good luck with your choice.

thank for the replies....we are living in Macau and are not planning to be permanently based here. I am from Mumbai.
When you say difficulties in shipping the cord blood in time of emergency- what kind of difficulties will one face?
Can i also have the contact of the person in Healthbaby..

i used cordblood.com from the US. very reliable, loads of experience. go to their website & register. then, they'll contact you about all the info you need. when i went into labor, my husband called the hotline for their courier service, and the courier service guy was there at the hosiptal waiting to pick up the cordblood to send to the US.

Hi samiakt,

I used Cordlife and they were very efficient and good with everything. However, i am not sure about the shipping to Mumbai if there ever is a need, so it's best to check with the company.

However, if you do decide to go for Cordlife, I can refer you and then we will both get a discount, so PM me if you need the info.

Good luck!

Thanks Bubbly
I am currently doing research on Cordlife...please let me know who your contact is there at Cordlife? Have you got the cells stored in HKG?

So am I, have no idea which one to go for? I guess it's between the usual 3 - Healthbaby, Cordlife and Cryolife. I do notice that these 3 store for 18 years vs the one in the UK that stores for 25 years (sorry I forgot the name of the UK company, Smart Cell?)...not sure why though, cost is about the same. Has anybody done a comparison between the companies to share with us? Thanks in advance.

I've been told that the reason for 18 years is because when the child is 18, he/she will have the legal right to decide what to do with the cord blood - ie. whether to continue storage or otherwise.

I didn't do a comprehensive comparison between the 3 but we chose Cordlife because they have a facility in our home country where we plan to be at in the long term.

Hi Bubbly, I'm looking into cord banking and am evaluating between Cryolife and Cordlife. how much discount can i get if you referred me to Cordlife? :) Thanks!

Can you share a little about the approximate cost?
What do you do if you move to another country in Europe, North America, or Asia?

i went with cordlife because they have centres all over the world where you could theoretically transfer the cord blood if you moved.

cryolife

I picked Cryolife eventually cause their processing and storage quality - both AABB and QMark (international and local recongized)
