Construction at Matilda

Hi - does anyone know how loud/disruptive the construction at Matilda is? We are planning to give birth at Matilda end of Dec and want to make sure it will be a peaceful stay!

Hi - I don't know about the construction noise as I gave birth in January. However, I just wanted to let you know that I was unlucky enough to be next to someone that rang the nurses bell constantly throughout the night (so much so that I thought it was a faulty alarm that was not switched off) and I really had a hard time resting because of it! So if you are sensitive to noise (as I am) do bring a pair of ear plugs!

I'm due to deliver there in November. I've been there twice in the past few months, the first time the noise on the maternity ward was very loud - sounded like drilling - and the second time there was no noise at all. Both around the same time of day so have no idea if that means the loud work has finished or if they just weren't doing it at the time I visited.

Got confirmation that work on 1/F will commence by Dec and will take place directly underneath maternity ward's private and VIP rooms. The ones with the balconies. Ugh!

okbaby Do you know where the construction was in relation to the maternity ward when you were there in Feb? I would prefer to not have to pick another hospital....

Yikes. Didn't know about this construction! Any idea where the construction works are taking place in relation to the maternity ward? I am due to deliver there in end-Oct and for the prices they charge, "drilling noise" is something I am certainly NOT looking forward to :-(

The renovation was done on the 4/F just above the maternity ward. Noise was bearable. The babies cries were louder as there were many ladies having babies delivered during my stay. The staff were very nice and I do recommend it.

Would you even get your deposit back if you changed now? They told us about the construction when we booked, so I wonder if they'd say we knew what we were signing up for...

I'm not expecting my hospital stay to be a spa retreat so I can survive with the noise! Planning to have baby rooming in so will be subject to regular cries anyway.

We haven't paid deposit yet bc we wanted to know more about it. Our next option would be Sanitorium, which is nice but very sterile.

Also work on 1/F is a complete gut renovation to build a new lab apparently. Very sensitive to noise so it's a big issue for me but it may not bother others.

Ah in that case then probably wise to consider another option. We are going with Matilda for health reasons (they keep Rhesus negative blood onsite and that's a concern for my delivery) so staying put and will pack earplugs.
