Help!
~~~~ My 7.5 month old (who used to poop once a week when exclusively breastfed) is now constantly constipated after solid foods are introduced. The only solids ever given to her are some oatmeal cereal, pears (lots), carrots, sweet potatoes and pumpkin. Solids are offered once or twice a day, and she doesn't take much, probably about 3-4 oz in total a day at most.
~~~~ When she does not get a poop in 3 days, I give her plain pear puree for dinner and diluted prune juice. If nothing happens still, I stop solids altogether for a day and offers boob and prune juice. And when that doesn't work, we use glycerin suppositories to induce a bowel movement (poor baby!)
~~~~ She's not the best drinker and only take small amounts of water and juice (probably 1-2 oz) a day. She's breastfed otherwise, with 5-7 nursings in a day.
~~~~ Doc had advised not to stop the momentum of offering solids, and what I should do is offer more high fibre fruit & veges, and more fluids. I don't foresee my baby drinking much more at this moment, and I thought/read that pears are one of the best laxatives.
Just to add: We do tummy massages and bicycle kick exercises pretty often but it doesn't seem to be working for us.
I really wish to hear from mommies who had to the same problem, and if they could share some advice. Thank you loads in advance!!!
