My baby 3 years old has started school since past 4 months, and since then he is having constant running nose, sore throat, and sometimes fever with 100-102. We have been going to see doctors. All of them are giving him antibiotics, antihistamine, nasa sprays. We are extremely worried giving my son so many medicines since past 3 months. We have also tried to have dehumidifier in his room when sleeping. But he is also not able to get well. We are vegetarian so we don't give him eggs which is very healthy. But now I am thinking if I should start giving it to him. Please help we are extremely worried, and have stopped sending him to school. If this continues we might even think about leaving HK.

We had the same problem when our little guy started school. What helped was building his immunity with daily vitamins and Cod Liver Oil. It worked.

My son is similar, started getting a constant cold when he started going to the playroom in our estate and then school, though thankfully no high fever, though frequently on antibiotics as the cold would just not go away but become thicker, green and go into a cough. My son didn't seem particularly bothered by it though.

I had read Rani's suggestion of cod liver oil, so we started him on Seven Seas...can't say it worked magic, but at least we know he's getting all the nutrients. I began to suspect an allergy so have been reducing dairy. He's especially fond of curd. But he's been having his milk as usual and for the past two-three weeks (fingers crossed) no cold, so don't think he's allergic.

Have you seen an ENT specialist. I saw a good one in Central when my daughter was a baby and she seemed to have a constant cold and our local ped kept prescribing antibiotics. The ENT I saw had years of experience in the public system and what impressed me was that he didn't prescribe anything that would keep me coming back to him. Can did out the contact if you like.

We have seen ENT but he perscribes antihistamine, and antibiotics always. While he is on medication he is fine, but once it is stopped and he starts going back to school he again gets the same problem. Yes, please suggest the ENT which you saw before, I am happy to check. Thanks a lot.

Thanks Rani,

What did you use for daily vitamins? Is it this one "Ola Loa KIDS MULTI " ? I can try out the Cod Liver Oil

I can't remember the name. I think it was Emer Gen, and then we switched to Flintstones chewables.

Now that he's older, we've dropped the Multi Vitamins, and he still takes a spoon of Cod Liver daily.

I seem to have jinxed my son's good run because he's down with a cold and high fever. Anyway, the ENT I liked is Dr Hui Yau: Pedder Clinic

There's a geobaby thread on him as well if you search this thread. The clinic is fancy and he may be expensive (I was covered by insurance) but worth even a one-time visit to get an opinion.

Hi mums,
I just want to share my story here.

My son went to a small kindergarten with 7 kids but that didn't seem to spare him with his share of sickness. He seemed to get sick often around 3.5 years with bronchitis, cold, infections... Long list. The illness went away but he was left with a chronic cough. . During those illness he was given often antibiotic, oral steroid, antihistamine.

So the cough stay. It was worse at night. We went to 3 different pediatrician in hongkong. The all check it carefully. One doctor said eat more veggies, one said it could be allergy so he coughs more at night.

We have been in Germany the past 6 month and we went to a pediatric pulmonologist. A doctor who is specialized in children's breathing problems. He said my son has asthma. My 4.5 year old is now on inhaled steroid twice a day. His night time cough is gone now but still cough occasionally in the day.

I was reluctant to accept the diagnose . I have often wonder if I have let him cough too long without treating or why hasn't the hongkong pediatrician diagnosed it.

We are looking actually for a pediatric pulmonologist in hongkong to follow up our case when we go back next month. I looked on the listings of doctors on this site didn't see any with that title, nor did
I find any online.

I was going to start a separated thread asking for help and recommendation. But for some reason, I can't seem to finger out how I can do so with my geobaby app.

I also back tracked older threads on asthma. But it didn't come up with so many.

I am surprised this with he type of weather and pollution in hongkong, asthma doesn't seem to be an issue?

Thanks for reading my long post.

I went to 360 to checkout what they say. They told me that because my son has been taking antibiotics and medicines since past 4 months, his immune system has become very weak. So they suggested to take some Probiotics and Multi Vitamins to improve the immune system, Elderberry extract for cold and flu, and Vitamin C syrup when he is having lot of cold. I tried with Probiotics and Elderberry extract and so far it has worked well (touch wood). All this is natural homemade with no side effects. We have also started to start the dehumidifier when my son is sleeping. Since past 1 week he has just 10% of cold what he used to have. He also have been going to school. The cold which he is having now is thankfully not greenish.

But surprisingly when I asked my pediatrician about the Probiotics and Elderberry extract he said we should not give it to my child. I don't know why. According to him the antibiotics he has been giving won't harm my son, and he said to wear a face mask every time he goes to school(which is impossible as my son will remove it). But I find it hard to believe that he is fine with children taking antibiotics but not any probiotics!! He said on an average every child comes to see him once a month.
