Cleansing liquid for baths for newborns

What type of cleansing liquid for baths for newborns do people recommend? There are so many brands out there - Kiehls, Mustela, Johnson and Johnson, Sebamed, etc. etc., that I don't know which one to choose! I would like to choose the mildest one possible for sensitive skin because I have a history of excema and am afraid that my newborn will be prone to it too. Thanks!

I also have a history of excema and dry skin, but for my newborn I don't use anything, just water. Newborns don't get dirty so I don't think there is any need for anything, maybe some baby shampoo if they have alot of hair. My LO is now 2 months and I'm still not using anything.

If you want to use something try the organic brands like Green Baby (available at Mother Organic), Sanctum or Eco Store available at Bumps to Babes. These will have less chemicals which could irritate the skin.

I don't have any first hand experience with what you asked. But My friend told me that she uses Sebamed for her daughter who has very sensitive skin ( had rash easily and quite often). She said it works better than J&J. The only other brand that she tried.

So, I am leaning towards using Sebamed with my new born who comes in June.

I used just water at first and then Oilatum which is a soap free, emollient - very good for excema and sensitive skin. Ecobaby do a nice 'sleepy time' wash with lavender also.

For my 6 week old I use J&J Head to Toe wash, for body and hair, sometimes the No Tears shampoo, nothing but water and cotton balls for the face. After the bath we often moisturize with J&J bedtime oil.

Arbonne works really well, its for sensitive skin and has natural ingredients, like oatmeal to prevent skin irritation.

Caution!!

Surely you have read the news these few days about Johnsons & Johnsons and Mustela being identified to have cancer causing ingredients in their products?

My friend gave me this US website, you can key in your product to see if they contain any toxic ingredients. (unfortunately if they don't cover japanese products which lots of HK moms use)

You better check the products you are using and change if needed.

I strongly recommend an Australian Brand called Ego. They have a range called QV. I have previoulsy had extremely sensitive skin and my sister has severe allergies, and we have both used this for our children from birth. It can be purchased at Watsons and is quite reasonably priced, they also have an oil which can be added to the bath instead of the wash, along with a massage cream. My daughter is now 14 months and we are still using it. It conveniently comes in a one litre pump container so it tends to last forever. Good luck.
