circumcision for toddler

My toddler may need a circumcision. Does anyone have any experience with this with their sons, do you have any doctors to recommend. How many days will the child have to be in hospital?

our son had one, but in london so i don't know of any doctor's here, but i am sure if you ask your hospital, they will tell you who to go to. it's not an overnight procedure. it literally takes no more than 30 mins (if that) and the child is able to go home right after. it's recommended to have it performed within their first two weeks. you just have to monitor the area, keep it clean and perhaps give calpol if they spike a fever (they of course advise you on dosage). the "bell" around the penis, falls off naturally . . .

i just reread your post and it said, "toddler" - sorry! read too fast!

i assumed it was a newborn. i am not sure how it works when they are older . . . but you r most likely right in that they will stay over in the hospital.

My son was 9 months, so crucially still in nappies (good from a healing perspective that he couldn't access the area). We had a scan first to really establish if it was necessary (catheter put in and then baby had to pee while scanned). To be honest I was more worried about that procedure than the actual circumcision. As it happened, it was totally fine - not much discomfort at all.

The actual op was a day procedure of around 45 mins, but we were in from early morning to mid afternoon (Adventist). Dr John Ngan was the pediatric urologist we used, he was very good with pre and post care also.

My son did not seem to be overly discomforted afterwards, although the area was definitely sensitive afterwards when changing nappies.

All in all, glad we got it done as opposed to leaving and him having a potential problem down the line when it would be much more serious an operation and recovery.

FYI, the procedure was VERY expensive (for a short op). We were lucky our insurance covered everything, but I would check that aspect out first.

We also used Dr.John Ngan and were happy with him. He was recommended by my OB and pediatrician to do the procedure. Although my baby was born at Matilda, he prefered to perform the procedure at Adventist (which we did). If I remember correctly everything cost between $15-20k.

ours was more like 60k all up for the procedure, not including pre and post appts with Dr Ngan. Might vary according to the room grade.
