Choose health care program in USA

Hi

We have to choose one of the health care programs provided by Blue Cross of California, PPO or HMO.

For HMO, we need to pick one family doctor (Primary Care Physician) and we should consult this person first for any illness.

For PPO, I need to pick a medical group. I preferred "Physician Medical Group of San Jose" if i choose.

Basically, PPO is more flexible but more expensive. HMO is cheaper but not so flexible.

Also, i prefer to choose Primary Care Physican who can speak Cantonese. The following are some of the choices:

Yes, Blue Cross PPO offers better coverage but at a higher premium. I used Blue Cross PPO as well while living in CA. I actually did not have a PC Physician but just used an OB for my pregnancy and a pediatrician for my daughter.

I have had both the PPO and HMO, although I am in the Washington DC area. While the PPO is more expensive, I prefer it. With the HMO things are more of a hassle - more approvals are required, more paperwork for the primary doctor, etc. In fact while many doctors take the HMO they do not like it, because of the paperwork and general hassle. When my daughter was born I switched back to the PPO. Good luck deciding!
