Child's (Taxi) Seat Belt Vest

I did a google search on joeysafe and discovered this thread... I can at least take comfort that we are not the only ones that have yet to receive the joeysafe harness we ordered back in September 2004!

We have one already from a previous order and it arrived no problem, however this one never turned up and it seems this Randy fella is using the same pathetic excuses one of which was my email being mistaken for spam... so why did they have no problem taking my money!? I have emailed, faxed, left messages and have never heard from anyone. I did finally get an email saying that I will have the harness by 10th March... well I'm still waiting. After another follow up mail he has now given me a UPS "tracking number" that UPS dont recognise and he signed off by saying "Your harnesses have been shipped! We appreciate your order and again apologize for the delay (which is an understatement).

T0sser. Still hasnt arrived....

Unanswered messages

I also tried calling the number but only got voicemails messages. My friend in US also tried calling but also got voice mail, although she left her US phone no one ever returned her call. It sounds like it is a very badly run business. I have the tote-n-go portable car seat and it serves the purpose (safety). Although I have not actually seen the Joeysafety harness, on the website it seems to be more portable and lightweight than the tote-n-go, the latter is not exactly light to carry around.

Neveragain,

For the tracking number, try USPS.com: I got mine sent by United States Postal Service (Global Express, I think), not UPS, so I would give that a go.

Momo,

We are very happy we have it and think it was definitely worth the effort of chasing them. We use it all the time. Pretty much everyone with young kids who has seen our child wearing it has asked where we got it from, thinking they would like to get one.

My only advice is to expect a wait, be prepared to chase them and as a last resort cancel the order & deal with your credit card company if you don't get a refund.

For us, part of the stress of ordering it was that our child was already 13 months when we ordered it, so we really wanted to use it right then. Not knowing if it would actually arrive made us wonder if we should be buying something else instead, while we were getting more & more stressed about doing journeys without it. If I was doing this again, I'd have ordered this when our child was 6-9 months old: that way we could have been sure it would have arrived by the time we needed it.

Surprised service

I have a very surprised and pleasant experience to report with my purchase of Joeysafe harness. Despite the un-returned telephone messages and bad press of this company I decided to give it a try because the Tote-N-Go portable car seat I have was just too heavy and difficult to use. I ordered the harness online on 5th April and much to my surprised it arrived today (11th April) !!! The company responded to my email and gave me a tracking number after my order, but the tracking number was not correct. I was beginning to think that here is the start of trouble but was very surprised and pleased to receive the harness today.

I too have a very pleasant suprised, I got my Joeysafe harness within 5 days of ordering.

GGHK,
How do you keep your child to sit still in the joeysafe. When my son was in his car seat (also 13 months), because of the lack of space, he just remained seated for the whole journey. When I try using the joeysafe this weekend, because it is less restrictive, he wants to stand up, move around etc.

I have not got round to using it yet because I use the car seat in Hong Kong. I bought it mainly to use when we go on holiday. So I am afraid I cannot answer your question

We only use it when one of us is sitting next to him - e.g. in the back, in a taxi.

We do tighten the seat belt which is attached to the joeysafe as much as possible, but that still gives our son (now 17 months) room to move around, so we have to make him sit up properly if he shifts around. He's mostly good about it, because he knows there is no alternative, and of course we keep him entertained.

I definitely wouldn't see it as a substitute for a car seat in your own car, at least not at this age. Its not ideal where you are driving and the child is unattended at in the back. However for taxis its absolutely fine and we use it every time we take a taxi.

Incidentally, we ordered some as presents for friends and now have one extra, if anyone is interested (just put it on geoexpat.com).

Joeysafe

I just wanted to update this thread for anyone who is considering ordering the Joeysafe harness (now called FreedomRide). I had read the posts about the delivery problems but really wanted to try this -- I have the ToteNGo but it is just too cumbersome to use. So I decided to take my chances, despite the warnings about this company, and I ordered the FreedomRide last week. It arrived today! I was very pleasantly surprised. I would like to thank that previous posters who dealt with this company because apparently you straightened them out.

i have a flight vest from bumps to babes. i think it's the one that you're asking about oahman. it's a vest, and there's a loop at the back of the vest, so u put the seat belt in the loop. so baby is not strapped between the seat belt & the seat, but rather outside the seat belt. it's approved by the AAP (american flying safety ass. or sth) for inflight only, not for take off or landing. some of my friends use it for the taxi. of course it's not as safe as a car seat, but it's better than squashing your child between you & the seat belt. and if one is going to take public transport, i think this is a better options than the rest, when it's not possible to bring a car seat? heh heh

if u do decide to buy, there are 2 sizes, one for infant & one for toddler.

hkmommy, can't find the vest that you'r talking about at rightstart.com

omg, i can't believe i'm replying to a thread that's been posted 3 yrs ago. i feel so stupid.....

anyway, any body else who's recently purchased the freedomride?
