Changing Mat - what to buy

Hi all - potentially quite stupid question.....

Changing mat - should I get the basic, wipe clean plastic one or the lovely looking one with the soft washable cover? I like the look of the soft one and I guess its more comfortable for baby but am I going to spend my entire life struggling to wash bodily fluids off it??!

I would go for the plastic....I have heard that the v shaped ones are really useful as they stop baby from wriggling too much and make it easier to get the nappy changed...

I agree too - go with the plastic for practicality!

There is so much washing associated with babies clothes, burping cloths, bedding etc that you don't need another piece to be continually washing too!

On the same note, if you're breastfeeding and using a breastfeeding pillow, try and opt for a brand that also sell its breastfeeding pillow covers separately, like mybreastfriend. I used to be miserable whenever my son pooped (leaked) on my breastfeeding pillow in the early days! Serves me right for going for the cheapest option!

Eugene generally have the best selection and cheapest options when it comes to changing pads - they sell spare change pad covers too if you're keen. Although to be honest, the baby doesn't know better either way.

Yes, easier for you, but depends when the baby will be born. It`s pretty chilly here in the winter months, so imagine the screams of protest you might get from baby landing on that cold surface.
One option would be using burp cloths on top of it. Good for warmth, no big deal to wash.

go for the plastic one. If you want they also have separate cover for sale that you can put on in winter.

i have the basic comfort changing pad with the contoured sides and I just put a regular bath towel on top and tuck the edges underneath. It makes it easy to change the towel when it gets dirty.
