Hello,

I will be flying back to the states with my daughter (who will be 11 months old) and was wondering what the better option is: CARE harness or car seat? Any experiences or advice with both would be greatly appreciated. Also, if we choose to purchase a car seat, does anybody know where to get one that is compliant with USA car seat regulations? We will be purchasing a seat for her on the airplane. She doesn't settle very well to sleep and can scream quite loudly. Also, I was thinking of purchasing a DVD player for the flight and was wodering if anyone has suggestions? One more thing , what are some good DVDs that will keep my child entertained? Sorry for so many questions, just want to make this trip as stress free as possible. Any advice is always appreciated....thanks

first, book a direct night flight if at all possible.

i took a "harness" for my first, and it was completely useless. she's going to have to move around somewhat and my son HATED it.

i've never taken a carseat either, as i usually travel alone. i could not manage kids, bags, diaperbag, passports, stroller AND a carseat.

why do you need either? i believe you have to hold the baby on your lap for take off and landing anyway....or are you afraid of turbulence?(that would be my fear, although in 14 years worth of trips over the pacific, i've never encountered really bad turbulence, but there's always a first time, right?)

forget dvd's.... get an ipod video and fill it up with kids stuff... much smaller to carry and a lot lighter, too. you can also get an addition battery pack for it that takes 4X AA batteries. MUCH easier than lugging a player plus dvds and batteries.

I just want her to be as comfortable as possible. She slept in the car seat the first time we flew but that was when she was 3 months old. Also, we thought about getting an iPod but my concern is the small screen and do you have to hold it the whole time to watch?

by 11 months she should be able (and want) to hold it herself. i also placed it on the seat between my two kids so they could both see it.

as for small screen, it's held fairly closely, so it isn't a problem.

the thing i hate about carseats is that the chidlren are SOOOOO confined. they can't even change butt cheeks if you know what i mean. being put into it for such a long time, i would think, might get kind of uncomfortable.
(but i've never taken one, so it is just speculation)
