car seat safety (without base)

My husband and I are wondering how feasible it is in HK to travel with baby car seat while taking taxis.

anyone used baby car seat (from newborn) in taxis? how patient are taxi drivers to wait for parents install the seat (using seat belt, without base)? how long would it take to secure the seat (5 min?)?

we plan to get a travel system so we can snap the car seat on the stroller.

it's our first baby, and much prefer better safe than sorry.

Have seen lots of mums using the Maxi Cosi and it only takes a few mins to strap in. They also have the stroller frame which the car seat snaps into. Very light weight and a good option with newborns.
 
I have just moved to Hong Kong with a 4 month old and a maxi cosi seat. It will only fit in about half of taxis. Some drivers are great but others are rude and impatient. One kindly suggested I should just hold the car seat! I'm feeling pretty stuck as I don't feel I can use taxis. Has anyone tried a seat belt extender?
