Just wanting to know if there is anywhere to hire car seats in HK? Will need to bring bubs home from the hospital, but have no need for a car seat after this.
Imagine this is a common issue? What do others do?
i would not be surprised if it's quite common to just carry the baby in your arms on the way home (while telling the taxi driver to drive slow and safe)
We carried the baby in our arms in the taxi. A safer option is to carry the baby in a baby carrier and put a seatbelt around yourself (but NOT around the baby). It would be worth practicing wearing the baby carrier in advance if you were doing that, because it can be a bit fiddly to figure out the first few times...
You can probably just borrow. We're still using ours - for our third child, but there must be lots of people with older children that would have outgrown there. Sometimes just posting a message in your building's message board will be enough. Good luck!
I can't help but strongly recommend that you do not 'carry your baby in your arms' coming home from the hospital or ever in the car or use a baby carrier. There is too high a price to pay if there is an accident and it may not necessarily be because a taxi driver is going slowly or fast. Others on the road are less careful and a gorgeous little baby is too precious to take unnecessary risks. Sorry to reinforce this but one of my clients did this for her first child. I first was asked to be a specialist Maternity nurse to help her with her second baby because she had issues with her first child who was mentally 'unstable' due to an accident in a car. The poor mother has to live with guilt and it was such a very sad thing to have happened.
Second hand car seats are also a risk as you have no way of knowing whether the seat has been involved in previous accidents.
Please, please consider buying a new car seat and using it. You could use it as the occasional stroller on wheels too. I am sure that it is possible to save money on other less important items.....
