I also had a positive experience at the Adventist and agree with mintycat on a lot o her points. The outsourced "baby nurses" are local Chinese and do not speak English, but I speak both so it wasn't too much of a problem. I told them that I wanted to keep my daughter overnight with me and they were always more than happy to leave her with me because they were so busy in the nursery. I think this is a problem with a lot of the hospitals, with too many newborns and all hospitals just being short staffed. One of the nurses told me she worked a double shift. I was not impressed with the baby nurses and they weren't always polite (a few were great, a few weren't so great). The nursery was filled with mainland babies and I think I saw only one caucasian baby during my 5 night stay. The regular nurses are very helpful and good at what they do, but they're not always available. There was one day though, when I had my daughter with me for the entire day, that no one came to check up on us. I was in a private room and I guess they were all too busy. I wasn't too happy with this because I expected a certain level of service during my stay. But generally speaking, the Adventist was good. They let you room in, you can breastfeed in your room (unlike the Sanatorium, which I have been told), and they are quite flexible and will basically follow your instructions on caring for your child. My Ob/Gyn says Matilda is good but a little "snobby" but their facilities are not the best. I'm assuming she's speaking from a medical standpoint for c-sections. This is what she told me. I would not know firsthand. Btw, Adventist told my doctor they were full, but my doctor told me just to stop by to check if I really was in labor, and when I arrived 10 minutes later, was told there were 2 rooms available. Go figure! So it was a good thing I went in person to check it out (we had a booking but were told we were "wait-listed").
