Can your OB (provider) or choice of hospital force you to get a c-section?

Hi mamas

I wrote in a previous post that i am part of several groups/forums, most notably HK mom on FB (which can be super intimidating and toxic at times - not gonna lie) so it's very hard for me to find a space space to ask questions.. im hoping GeoBaby will have some answers for me... Basically

First time mom here, 32+6, giving birth mid May and I am going private - funny, just sharing this has ALREADY brought on funny comments from some people (why private? public is great bla bla bla, hidden costs, expensive when it comes to emergency c -sections) - firstly, my company will pay for it and its my first baby, i am prepared for shoulder any additional expenses.

In terms of my OB and choice of private hospital - fearful of sharing it here in case there are comments that will deter me.. but i've picked an OB who practises in both Kowloon (where i live) and HK side, and a hospital in Kowloon side.

My question - can your OB or hospital force you to get a c-section?i read somewhere that my choice of hospital is more on c-sections (lol......) and this is my biggest fear. I am Eurasian, low risk but my baby has always measured 1-2 weeks ahead on the scans (i know scans are NOT 100%).. my doctor has already briefly mentioned to keep an open mind on certain things (c-section, induction) but i am a firm, strong willed person who has shared my birth plans with him (non medicated, vaginal birth) and unless theres a complication, i want to go natural. just wondering though - doctors or hospitals cannot force a csection on me unless its a life or death situation right?

Hello, Hello!

Sorry you're going through this. But this is such a HK problem. Doctors here are scalpel happy. Yes, they earn more with a c-section and of course like to be able to schedule it than being on call.

Your Dr can't force you to have a c-section. He will try and persuade you and if you feel at any point that he is not being honest with you, go get a second opinion. Have never heard of hospitals forcing a c-section. They have to follow your Dr's orders.

If i had good insurance I would have gone private too! Lucky you.
