Bugaboo prams

I saw one in the top floor of the princes building last week - think it was in one of the shops opposite mothercare.....

I have one - they are excellent....

Stop, stop, stop. Don't rush off to Jacardi just yet. They only offer orange and blue pushchairs but more importantly, they're selling the Frog which is actually now out of production! The Cameleon is the name of the new top end Bugaboo model and aims to fix all the niggles that people had with the Frog - bigger seat, bigger carrycot, more comfy matress, longer and taller frame, height adjustable, bigger bag et al. I asked in the shop and they very honestly said that they have no intention of selling the new model!

Jacardi's Frog price is comparable to standard UK prices BUT I've just ordered a Cameleon from a Dutch company who ship to Hong Kong and are already set up to deduct the Dutch equivalent of VAT. What this means is that I've got a Cameleon, which has a RRP of ?599 for HK$6,800 including shipping, instead of a Frog from Jacardi for the same price, which has a RRP of ?499. In other words, a better stroller for the same money.

Here is the web address for the company I've ordered from:

www.babytrader.co.uk

It sounds like a UK company, but this is in fact their English language web site. You'll also see that they're selling a Bugaboo called a Gecko. These are on sale in the UK for ?399 from memory, so ?100 less than the Frog and ?200 less than the Cameleon. Unfortunately, they're of lighter construction then the Frog so are not as good a pushchair and according to someone I know who has seen one in the flesh and owns a Frog 'very disappointing for a Bugaboo'. Therefore, you'll be buying solely for the name.

P.S. someone who has replaced their old Frog with a Cameleon says that the seat and sunshade fabric on the Cameleon breathes a lot better so is proving to be better in the Florida heat then their Frog.

Thanks Slee for such an informative reply!!! I had read about the new ones on the Bugaboo website but did not realise that they would ship! I shall now investigate further. Thanks!

Do you mean which one did we choose? If so, then dark grey base with pink top - no prizes for guessing what we're expecting!

If what you mean is that you need some more examples then the bugaboo site has a tool where you can select your own colour choices and see how they look. One good thing about this pushchair is that you can buy spare 'tops' - the seat liner, sunshade and carrycot top - in whatever colour you like later.

Yes I found it great for a newborn and mine was a month early weighing in at 4.5lbs - people did ask us where he was as he was hidden by the top cover!

Hes now 5 mths and a bruiser and I'm about to switch it over to the pushchair mode........

you might get one off ebay - everything washes so aslong as the frame is in good working order then 2nd hand is fine.
....

Hope this helps and good luck with your pregnancy

Yes, the maxi cosi cabrio, Peg Perego viaggio and an Evenflo one. I know nothing about the Evenflo one (it's a US market one) but have ordered a maxi cosi as it is rated better that the viaggio for safety by the British AA. The cost to buy one in BTB is the same as to buy one and have it shipped by BabyTrader but although I can manage without the pushchair if our baby comes early, I didn't want to risk waiting 10 weeks for the carseat. Now, I'm waiting to see if BTB will have the colour I want in their next shipment!

To use a carseat, you need to order Bugaboo adaptors, which Babytrader sell (look out for black and silver prong like things). I'm getting a friend to bring over these and a buggy board from the UK though, as the postage was going to be more than VAT. I haven't ordered them yet but will probably get them from John Lewis as they have free delivery within the UK.

P.S. have just rechecked my prices and you'll only save HK$40 if you buy the adaptors from the UK. However, BabyTader's postage on other items, including the buggy board I need, are much higher so are much cheaper in the UK.

What I'm trying to say is that if you can wait ten weeks and just want the stroller and a carseat, it'll be just as cheap and much simpler to buy all of these from BabyTrader.

Yes, me again! I take back what I just said! I've just have a look at the carseats on BabyTrader and realised that they don't have them in stock for another 4 - 6 weeks, after which you'd then have to wait for them to ship it. The maxi cosi adaptors are in stock though!

Let me know what you choose. Sorry if I sound completely bonkers with all my posts today!

I keep looking at the website as I can't wait for mine to arrive - 7 more weeks...

Noella, I've just got a card in the mail to say that my new pushchair is waiting at the post office for me - hurray! I'm very happy as it was meant to take 8 - 10 weeks but has taken exactly one month since I ordered it! Well done baby Trader :-) Now I just need to wait for our odd job man to pick it up for me - I didn't fancy assembling it in the street to get it home!

Excellent!!!! Isnt amazing how excited we can about these things! Still trying to convince the huuby I cant live without a bugaboo as he has his heart set on a Graco in Toys R Us!! Let me know how it is! Incidentally when are due?

So far it's great. I was worried about putting it together as I was sure I'd break it first go, but my two year old daughter actually started unfolding it and sticking wheels on correctly, so I quickly realised that it is very, very easy to assemble! We've have a Maclaren and two Peg Peregos and this pushchair is definitely the most well made of the lot (never buy a Maclaren). Even the wheels fit on and off without any difficulty or technical skills necessary.

The carrycot is really lovely and soft so you don't need a Moses basket as well. Everything glides really well when you change settings and unclip the carrycot from the frame so I'm very happy and relieved with my choice. My daughter spent three hours last night putting her dolly in it and pushing it around the living room but she couldn't convince me to push it around the neighbourhood - that would be too embarrasing! Friends who are pregnant had been wondering what they were going to do for a pushchair as he is 6'6" so they're really excited about one now as the handle extends far enough for an NBA star! I'm 33 weeks on Sunday so will only have Dolly to push in it for a few weeks yet (touch wood) but if you like you can have a look at it. Send me a PM if you're interested. In the mean time, I'll be practicing folding it up!
