Hi all,

It was really nice meeting you all (and putting a face to some of the names here!). Anyway, PM with your e-mail and I will set the group thing up.

For the brands I mentioned during lunch, you can check these out:

Stroller & Carseat: ORBIT (sold at Mothercare) www.orbitbaby.com

Prenatal education: BABYPLUS www.babyplus.com.hk (PM me if you are interested), as mentioned to Cherry, I highly recommend this as using it helps producing a calm baby who sleeps and eats well, so we can sleep and eat well!

Baby Carrier: ERGO carrier http://www.doubibou.com/
(get freee shipping with orders of 2 or above)

Milk Bottle: Adiri www.adiri.com (sold on www.milk-factory.com or Citysuper)

Let me know if you have any other queries!

I used it during my pregnancy and am very glad I did. Bubs has been a calm and contented baby from day one - great nurser, good sleeper, easy to soothe and very strong and alert. Maybe he would have been that way even without it (I'll never know) but the way I saw it, it doesn't hurt to try and it's a nice bit of extra insurance. (I wasn't even all that diligent using it - certainly not every day, the way some of my friends were doing so.)

We're not planning on having a second child so if someone is looking for a second hand model, I'd be willing to sell it. PM me if interested.

i didn't know orbit was available here in hk! one of my gfs back home (los angeles) purchased the orbit earlier this year and raves about it. although being that i don't have a car here & it's a bit on the large side, i don't know how useful it would be here.

is anyone using the orbit system? any feedbacks?

Hi all,

Sounds like it was a very informative lunch! I'm sorry I couldn't make but would love to catch up at the next one, being a newbie and all. Nothing like a good chit chat about stuff that works and stuff that makes your life a little easier.

Hope you're all well,
Rita

I am using the Orbit and really love it. Although I think it will be a bit of a waste if you do not have a car since half of the cost is the carseat.

is that the one that's like, $10k???

they look really cool, but it really isn't necessary to spend so much on a stroller, unless of course, you want to and money isn't a problem.

I get around in taxis all the time with my little one and the thing that you learn pretty quickly is- the lighter and easier to fold-unfold the better!! Having said that I did learn the hard way and am onto my second stroller since her birth. Being preggers and getting round with her means that the lighter the better has been even more important. If I had a car, it would be a very different story I'm sure.

FYI, regarding the Orbit travel system. I went down to Mothercare in Lee Gardens II and they have only one on display and it is the last one for sale. (~HK8,000 - display model only)
I asked if they could order a new one and they said no. I even called Mothercare Singapore and they said that they wouldn't get any until August.
I did try out the display model and it really is cool - I may have my husband lug one back from his business trip to the US in the next few months!

With the Baby Plus, how loud is it? I was reading the website and it says use for an hour in the morning, and as I have an early morning start at work it would be good to be able to use at my desk as long as it didn't disturb my co-workers. I don't fancy waking up any earlier than I have to, to use it at home - 6.30am is early enough!

thanks

i use the babyplus at home in the mornings. the appartment is very quiet by that time and at the beginning i was worrying waking up my husband. but when the surroundings get noisier, it won't be that loud anymore. you can always cover it with a pillow. one of my coworkers used it on the bus every morning, she drew lots of attentions :)

It's noticeable but not loud, I think initially, you will be very aware of it, but after a couple of weeks, it sort of becomes white noise as you (and your coworkers) will be used to the rhythmic beating.

I've heard of ppl bringing it to the office but personally, I find it pretty loud - and there's no volume control. So unless you have your own office with fairly solid walls (or you want to annoy your co-workers), I probably wouldn't. On the other hand, I never used it in the morning - only at night - usually before bedtime.

Ok - "brand question"...

For slings - do you guys think that one that wraps up and ties is better? Or one that is a fixed length already?

I was thinking, a fixed size one would be more simple - but it might be harder for both me AND hubby to use the same one... but a tie up one might be too complicated for me and hubby and so we might not end up using it anyway...

What's everyone else thinking???

How about putting a cushion over it to cover the noise? I did that in the beginning when I found the beat too loud! It's really strange, the second round using it doesn't seem as loud as before, maybe I already knew what was coming??

slings- arghhh- I could never use them and my daughter went crazy when I tried. Kind of defeated the purpose as I thought I might be able to use it to calm her down! I was probably a bit uncordinated though and not thinking very clearly through lack of sleep. I have to say that the baby bjorn completely saved me and is soooo easy to use. I used it at least once a day for the first nine months. My daughter was 3.5 kgs (pretty average for Oz) when she was born so I was able to use the BB straight away. She loved it and slept beautifully the minute I put her in and set off. I actually have a sling with a clip on it that I don't use, you're more than welcome to borrow if you're keen to try one out before you buy. Pm me if you're keen. Hate to see it go to waste.
