Birthday donation

My son will be 5 years old next month and I've planned to throw him a birthday party. But it gives me a headache just by knowing that he will be receiving tons of presents which alot of them are dupilcates or he already have similar ones.

So this year, I've decided to ask for birthday donations instead of presents. Does anyone have any suggestions on which organization i should donate to (i'm thinking unceif). Also, does anyone have any ideas regarding on birthday donations? Do you think this is a good idea? I was thinking to put a note in the invitation, how should I word it?

For my daughter's 1-year-old birthday party, I did the same thing. I took the Orbis donation box from my friend's office and brought it to the party venue. In the end, I couldn't help wonder if some people felt obliged to donate.

I did write on the invitation about not buying presents, but some people still did. Some bought presents and donated at the same time. But it has definitely reduced the number of presents.
