BF in Hong Kong

mich
yes, i agree. Some of the locals can be quite rude in terms of staring. But well, initially i was quite apprehensive too, but now i cudnt even be bothered to see who's staring, come on, i've already had a cover on! Let them stare if they want, if any of them dare to approach me to tell me off, i'd be sure to give them a proper tongue lashing! Haha.

Funny enough, I have breast fed all my three babies all in Hong Kong and I haven't noticed or remembered any staring. Who cares, why bother going to the ladies/babies room if you are not embarrassed yourself. I am a strong believer that breastfeeding is normal part of life, and if anyone does stare, maybe they want to learn how to breastfeed, watch all they want. I only recalled once that a staff asked me to go to the ladies to breastfeed. She said the young couple on the next table didn't feel very comfortable about it. That happened in the Disneyland Hotel restaurant (and they didn't have any comfortable chairs inside the toilet either). I didn't try to be difficult though, I complied but I did ask if she could be kind enough to push in a chair for me which she did. I wasn't bitter. I respect that some people cannot accept that I was grateful that they said so.

mushi, you were at the correct location, however instead of going into the toilet corridor, the wall opposite pageOne has a glass door with 'baby care room' or something to that effect. Hope that helps!

Just wondering if anyone knows where I can purchase a nursing wrap in HK? I remember seeing some in Papyrus before, but they are no longer available there...

hi michtan

Welcome to HK.

I assume you are from Singapore. Well I am too. I am due in Nov and would really get to exchange notes with you.

Thank you

I have to admit that I knock on nursing room doors sometimes, but it is only because I found other people bottle-feeding their babies and rocking their little one to sleep in there. And one time, I found a maid holding a sleeping baby in the room for more than 30min while my baby was screaming for food right outside the door!!

I found it hard to bf my baby in public because he like to move around a lot (he gets distracted easily) while nursing and he loves to get any coverage (shawl, shirt, etc) out of the way...so I don't think feeding in public is the way to go for me unless I want to really show my breast in public...

nic-mom - I have the same concern as you. My girl is around 5 months old and I found it hard to BF her in public since she gets distracted so easily and keeps on pulling (like in waving motion) my shirt and nursing cover. I have the Bebe Au Lait cover which is big enough to cover but she just won't feed! Can mommies who have older babies share how you BF your distractible babies?
