She become 2 in this April. I would like to have her a educational environment ... Which could be the best in Hong Kong Island?

Hi, i am looking for a school for my little girl too. She is becoming 2 in April as well. Any idea?? You know if the Montessori Int'l school accepts kids at 2yr of age?

Tutor Time in Tai Tam is great, I just enrolled my little girl there. She'll start when she turns 2-years old this November. She's currently at Woodland Happy Valley, twice a week, and she's loving it. The school is a little small, but for two hours a week I shouldn't be complaining. I like Tutor Time because it's bilingual. Do you want bilingual? And do you want Montesorri?

Tai Tam is to far away for me. But the one in Kln Tong is not as good as Tai Tam. Just think Montessori, nearer anyway. Not knowing if it's good or not but it's new and the school seems working out with hearts. May have a visit there. Bilingual is better as chinese becomes more important. Heard Montessori is bilingual too.

The new Woodland Pokfulam offers bilingual classes at 2.6 years and it's a brand new complex, that might be a consideration, or PIPS in Parkview. However, PIPS' bilingual classes don't begin till 3 years old, which is late I think personally. I've looked into most of the bilingual schools and there's not a lot of choices, which is why HK can be frustrating for kids' eduction, sigh! I'm not a fan of Victoria and decided against it and Kiangsu, North Point, are full. I even looked into ISF, but they won't begin their Kindergarten classes till much later.

Have you seen the Woodlands in Pok Fu Lam? Its such an old building, I'm surprised it hasn't been condemned yet.

Oh really I haven't seen it yet, but there's nothing that will ever be ideal in HK, so we just have to live with it. Even Kellett School is relatively old now and it was brand new when I went ages ago.

Hi Josoo,

May I ask why Victoria wasn't your choice for consideration since it's bilingual? The reason I asked is that my little girl goes to the school's playgroup and I've been to the orientation and frankly, I'm not that impressed with the teachers at Victoria. Having said that, the school is situated at the estate I live in so it's on my list because I'm not that crazy about having my 3 year old take the school bus every day to go to school...plus I don't have a helper, so convenience is a big factor for me. I had thought about tutor time because I'd prefer a more american based curriculum, but communting is still a problem for me...

hi mummies,

anyone heard of Starters School at Wan Chai? I am also hunting for a billingual school for my 3 yrs old and hope to look for 1 in HK island.

tks,

A lot of my friend's children attend Victoria and I have heard that the teacher to child ratio is not very balanced. The school is also very commercialised and I personally do not want my daughter attending a school in the middle of the city. I feel it is always easy to pick a school for convenience, because we all worry, have a lot of errands to run, some of us work, travel time, no maids, etc. I mean there's nothing wrong with that since we all live in HK and it's one big city anyways, but I have grown up believing space, greenery, fresh air is very important. I guess its all very dependent on one's values.

I based my priorities it on language, teacher-children ratio, environment and then proximity. Afterall its a hard choice and we really have to pick a school that suits our child's personalities. They will be the ones spending their time there - not us!

I visited Starters, when they were still around on Tai Hang Road, and I just did not like it (based on my priorities above - too small, facilities extremely old, toilets stank, no trees), plus it is not bilingual. It is never easy picking a school in HK...

I've met quite a few people who have sent their kids to Starters. They all rave about it. I felt it was too far for us and didn't feel comfortable putting D on the bus. Hence, didn't go visit.

Ever thought about Rosaryhill school? They have both Cantonese and English streams to choose from and the school campus is very good in terms of outdoor space and fresh air. It is located in a very green residential area on Stubbs road. They have pre-nursery class for 2 yr olds and also playgroups if you do not want full week. They have both outdoor and indoor playgrounds as well as very pleasant, clean, well-equipped classrooms. Anyone intersted, let me know and I'll pass you the contacts.

i have heard so many negative remarks about victoria. i am so surprised why parents still send their kids there. my gf and my neighbour took their kids to victoria last week for the nursery interview at two different campuses. one at belchers and the other at harbour heights. they both said the teachers were horrible and not friendly.

hi babar

hi babar,
can you please send me the contact no for rosaryhills.i'm also been looking for my son who will turn 2 in july.thanx.

I too am looking for a more Canadian/American Based environment but also one with Chinese so my daughter will be more well balanced. My daughter is one year old now and I'm debating btw Tutortime Playgroup and Victoria Playgroup. I visited the Kowloon Tong branch and the Tai Tam one and the Tai Tam is so-oo much better. Plus the Tai Tam branch has more of a multi-cultural environment/students than the Kowloon Tong Branch. I lived on the Kowloon Side and commuting there will be a problem. Since I don't want to go into a taxi with the carseat- kowloon tong might be far for me too. At least I can go onto the schoolbus for the Tai Tam branch at Central. any suggestions?
