Best of....

Hello,

I'm now in my 8th month and am looking to buy all the "essentials" for the baby - I know there are many threads re a "list" of essentials but if anyone can recommend the "best of" brands for cribs, cot-beds, moses baskets, closet, bottles, sterilisers, monitors, cream etc, that would be really helpful!

:thanks

I think it is all down to personal preference and sometimes baby's tolerance, but this is what we use:-

Bottles - Bfree.
Steriliser - Avent is big reliable enough.
Cream - Physiogel for baby's face (tends to get dry patches).
Baby wipes - Pigeon
Milky bath oil/shampoo - Mustela
Cots, etc- being practical is most important so depends if you have large/small room/flat. Mothercare is good enough.
Mattress - Mothercare

Bottles - Dr. Brown
Monitor - Angelcare
Infant carseat / stroller - Peg Perago Aria travel system
Toddler carseat - Britax
Sterilizer - Avent
Breast pump - Avent Isis hand pump
Wipes - for the first few months, "homemade" ones of large cotton pads soaked in water. Now we use Johnson's
Cream - QV
Shampoo and bath - Seba-med
Nursery furniture - Jacadi (including mattress)
Rocker - Maclaren
Carrier - Baby Bjorn Active
Moses basket for the first few months - Mamas and Papas

These are by no means the best, just what we use. I am pretty satisfied with all of them. I am 9 months pregnant now and for the breastpump, I have rented the Medela Symphony this time as I probably won't have time to handpump and take care of a toddler and a baby. The handpump is very good in extracting milk (better than the Medela mini electric which I also used) but it's time consuming.

I would recommend using cotton wool balls and water in the beginning rather than wipes as my baby developed a bad nappy rash from wet wipes. Maybe use wet wipes after a couple of months or just when you are out and about.

We have the Avent sterilizer that is meant to take 8 minutes - it took 25!!!! So I took it back to the supplier she said they take 10 mins empty with the lid off and all take longer full up! They exchanged it and the new one takes 15 mins. I would get another brand or a microwave version if I was buying again.

Infant carseat - Peg Perego
Stroller - Peg Perego Venezia & P3
Toddler carseat - Aprica (actually this is an infant to toddler carseat)
Crib & Dresser - Chicco
Bottle sterilizer - Avent
Swing - Ocean Wonders Aquarium from Fisher Price
Breastfeeding pillow - Boppy
Activity center - Graco

Love all these products!

Bottles - Avent
Monitor - Didnt need one. Just kept the door open.
Infant stroller - Bugaboo Chameleon.
Sterilizer - Avent - We had both models. Both worked according to time specified.
Diapers - In HK - Pampers.
Wipes - Johnson's from the get go.
Oil - Johnson's lavender oil
Rash cream - Penaten
Shampoo and bath - Johnson's Chamomile and Lavender bedtime bath
Nursery furniture - From Oz... can't remember name. But if we had to do it again... I'd just use the one from Ikea.
Rocker - Fisher Price
Carrier - Baby Bjorn Active

Sterilizer - Avent - We had both models. Both worked according to time specified.

Hi spockey,

I'm also considering getting an Avent steriliizer, since you have both models (I believe it's the new one Avent Iq24 & the old model), can you please advise which model is better? Thanks! :burnout:

cribs - jacadi (with wheels)
bottles - dr.brown
sterilisers - avent (but if you'll only offer breastmilk, no need to stelise, if you plan to mix feed, yes)
breast pump - before you can get the hang of a handpump - medela electric (need to rent), then avent ISIS (the best invention)
monitors - angelcare
cream - weleda
bath - weleda or lavera
wipes -newborn:pigeon cotton pads with water; 6mths+ :johnson
car seat - always maxi cosi - light & safe & comfy
stroller - graco
nursing pillow - my brest friend
nipple cream - lansinoh (my saviour)
nursing pads - avent plastic or pigeon disposable
best shop to buy it all - bumps to babe & eugene
carrier - mayo wrap
breastfeeding support - LLL
mothering support - geobaby!!!!

Pram- bugaboo chameleon but it's good to have a collapsible stroller too. McLaren are good.

Cot - Boori. The quality is so great.

Wipes- used wipes initially but bubs got nappy rash a couple of times so we switched to using tissues and sorbolene. Best decision ever. He never had nappy rash again and we save a fortune :) Wipes are convenient but if you're having a bad day and need to change lots of pooey nappies they're not great. The sorbolene is soft and doesn't damage the skin at all.

Grobags are a must.

Everybody has covered the rest.
