Hello everyone,

I am quite petite at 160cm and 49 kgs and I have a terrible back. Can someone recommend the best baby carrier for me please? I am new at all this stuff and need your help and inspiration!

Thanks mums......

I have back problems and I found the the most comfortable was the mei tai style. The bay bjorn is a killer for your back. It is okay whenyou baby is really small, but once they put on some weight it is terrible. Any style that you tie on will be better than one you strap on.

i have a really bad lower back. we had the bjorn, but i am sure it made it worse. when my son was 10 month, we bought the Ergo Carrier which makes a huge difference! Can be bought at Bumps to Babes or online at www.doubibou.com.

hi January!

i am in the same situation as you! I had the babybjorn but it was really terrible for my back even though i bought the latest design with the back support. Presently - I am using a babysling which somehow helps to distribute the weight across my shoulder and back. It is still not perfect but i feel much2 better as compared to the bjorn ie i am able to carry bubs for an hour strap to me.

Am told that the Ergo carrier will be better suited for bad back. Yet to try but will soon. My baby is now abt 7.5 kg...and getting heavier...

hope this helps

Not Ergo...

Hi,
I am 158cm and weigh only 42kg and though my baby is only 6kg, I have bad back and shoulders from using 2 baby carriers before.
I recently brought a wrap from US (not Ergo) that is great, after using it, I cannot feel my baby's weight anymore, what's more , my baby who is a really fussy one, fell asleep the first time I carried her inside there. If you are interested I can PM you the details.
Cheers

hi there. I'm very petite as well and yes the baby bjorn is a back killer.. even when I make my hubby carry the LO.. Just a question. how long do you carry the LO till? Mine is coming to 1 year and pple tell me that he should really not be carried around anymore but rather sit in the stroller...

our son is 13 months old and we still carry him in the ERGO especially in HK taxis or when we traveling. sometimes a stroller is just not pratical.

After reading these posts, I think I will forgo my original plan of buying the Baby Bjorn and go for the Ergo. I went on the website and learned more about it. But it looks like I have to buy the infant insert as my baby is still a newborn. Does that mean the regular carriers are meant for bigger babies?
Does anyone have experience using the Ergo with small babies, under 6 months?
Also, is there a Doubibou in HK? Whereabout is it?
Thanks!

I used the Ergo from the time my daughter was a newborn. I used the infant insert at first - only really for maybe 2 months or so, until she was comfortable "straddling" instead of keeping her legs together. I don't know if the infant insert is really "necessary" but maybe it is for smaller babies, I don't know. And in all honesty, I think that maybe a blanket would work just as well...

After about three carriers I settled on the Baby Bjorn (which was then only used for about 3 months before she got too big!). The one with the back support.

I really liked the Phil&Ted but it didn't offer the same support as the BB with the back patch in it.

We love the ERGO too!!! works for both my 28lbs toddler and 9mth old baby and both hubby and i can use the same one easily!!
