Bangkok with children

I have to take my son to Bangkok to get his teeth fixed. We will be there for 11 nights. Some of the time will be spent at the hospital (ie. the day he has them done) but then we have a 1 week wait between visits.

I'm wondering if there is anything we should "not miss"? I've done some reading and I've come up with the following:

Siam Ocean World
Dream World
Safari World
Sampran Elephant Ground & Zoo
Siam Water Park (our hotel has a pool, so will probably give this a miss. $ is an issue)
Samut Prakan Crocodile Farm

Have any of you been to these places? Were they any good? Would you go again with your kids or would you give them a miss? Would you suggest taking a tour (I am NOT usually a "tour" type person, but it'll just be my son and I so maybe, it's not a bad idea?) or would you just get taxis?

We are staying off of Sukhumvit in the Adelphi Suites. Have any of you stayed there? Do you know if there are any supermarkets around?

Another question: how long does it take to get to pattaya? Would it be possible to go for a day-trip?

Thanks, ladies!

great! thanks. will make that a definite, then. my kids, both, love the aquarium at Ocean Park here, so i'm sure he'll love the one there, too!

Hi Carang, I'd like to do root canal surgery in Bangkok, may I have the hospital info of where you son is going please?

Must go to Safari World, it is great. We hired a cab to Safari World. Came to pick us up from hotel at city , drove us there and back. Costs THB1500 not including toll. Name: Pongsak Kantajan, Tel: 0818 258 589
We also hired him to take us to the airport, inclusive toll costs THB600. His taxi is a bigger type, can put in 2 big check in bags and stroller. Maybe you can ask him, about day trip to Pattaya.

Do not join local tour from the airport. Do no take pink taxis.

Have a good trip!

If you have a a week between appts, why not get out of the hot, dirty city for a few days. kanchanaburi is a couple hrs bus away, nice scenic places, touristy so well set up. Pattaya is smutty. Hua hin, also two hrs from bkk is more child friendly, more families go there. Also koh samet, two hrs from bkk is a good island option. But when are you going? Although apparently not as wet this year, sept is the rainiest month.
Book a tour if you want, why not? I would find a decent agency In the sukhumvit area that caters nicely to foreigners. Pink taxis have a bad rap for some people but I have never had a problem. Just with all taxis, never pay a flat fare in the city. Always say metre. if they refuse, move on. If you take a taxi to a far place, it's all standardized fares, located on a list inside the taxi. It should cost only about 200b or so from the airport to sukhumvit, plus tolls and airport surcharge.

i'm in bangkok now. we went to aquarium on monday before dentist. it was great.
hired a taxi yesterday to take us to safari world. he ran the meter and we were there for 6+ hours! it came to 1100THB not including tolls (205THB). my son loved it. i was not too fond of the 'shows', but he enjoyed them. i liked the safari drive.

today we are off to hospital again. the dentist (fantastic) said that he didn't think it necessary to do the work under general anesthesia. he gave my son 3 or 4 fillings on monday, and today will do some more. he's saving the bad tooth for last, so that he can build up trust with my son. they were all very good. at the end of the appt, they gave him a toy car and a balloon sword. when the sword popped today, he was actually happy to go back to the dentist to get another one! will let you know how it all goes!

thanks for all the tips, ladies!
