Babysitting recommendation

Hi all,

We are looking for someone to look after our (will be then) 16 month old for a short time while I go to the hospital to have my second baby. It will literally be to stay home with my older child while I go off to have the baby. We'd like for my husband to be there, naturally. We do not have a helper (dad is home full-time) nor do we have family in HK. Friends are not available as they have jobs / duties.
Can anyone recommend an option for us? We don't speak Cantonese so we have the added difficulty of not finding local options. Oh, and we live in the NT.
Has anyone tried rent-a-mum or a similar service?
Thanks,
-Susan

How long would you need the sitter to stay? 3-5 days, or longer? 24 hrs?

Its possible to find a local 'pui yuet' that could come during the day, but they tend to have a 1 month minimum. They also cook and bath baby ect. I think if you are willing to pay more, they might be willing to do a shorter period if they are not booked in. It might require a friend to set it up for you and be the go between as they are usually cantonese speakers.

Thanks for your suggestion, Pandy. I'll see if I can find a co-worker who can elaborate on that!
We do not want anyone to stay - there's no need for other care (bathing and stuff), as we do it all ourselves. Due to the nature of this I guess we'd need to be last-minute, and on-call. Literally hey, hang out with my child for a few hours so my husband can come for the delivery! And non-English speaking wouldn't be an option, because none of us speaks anything other than English and any instructions / queries would have to done in English.
I guess that may leave me without your option... :)

Hi there,
Speaking from experience - In Safe Hands was really helpful for our two young boys when we first moved here. It's more expensive than a helper, but it have us peace of mind.

Thanks mary101. I had heard back from rent-a-mum who basically said that A) we lived too far away (Shatin is too far away?!?!) and B) we'd be better off hiring a live-in for that time.
They are a no-go.
So I'll check with In Safe Hands. Thanks again!
