What is the best temperature to wash baby's clothes at to ensure that it is thoroughly clean? And is it recommended to use Napisan with each wash?

When our kids were babies we used the Napisan only for the nappies or if the BB's clothes had gotten very stained.

Other than that, we washed the bb's clothes w/ the rest of the laundry: whites w/ whites on a higher temp; darks in colder water; wool in cold water and by hand as necessary.

I never knew that some people washed their BB's clothes separately until I started reading and posting in parenting forums. :)
 
we haven't washed either of our kids stuff separately either, but then again, neither of the kids has extremely sensitive skin....it is a great timesaver being able to just throw everything together...

we, too, only used napisan for the 5 minutes that we used cloth diapers.
 
i only used napisan for soiled nappies. & than rinse thoroughly in running water & wash again in the washing machine. i notice the smell of napisan is extremely strong of strong chemicals, so later on i washed the nappies separately with dettol & liquid tide.
 
What temperature do y'all use - is 30C enough, or should we use 60C? Also I use Vigor and Napisan for each load, but do not separate out the bibs from clothes, etc. Any poo stains are rinsed but then washed with the rest of the clothing. Is this okay?

i wouldn't put the dirty (altho rinsed) nappy with clothing. i used to get the helper to wash them by hand first, and then put together with rest of the cloths in the machine. but if you don't have a helper (or if she's too busy to do that), i'd recommend washing the nappies in a different load.
 
about temperature,when i was at school, we had housekeeping lessons, here is what i was taught: white cotton should be washed at 90, color cotton & bedsheets (cotton) at 60, synthetic at 30, any kind of wool in cold water.
 
What about clothes with poo stains? I dont use cloth nappies but we do have clothes that are victim to explosive poo.

I thought 90C was why my white clothes turned grey, is it okay to wash them in that hot a temp?
 
i never had problems washing off breastfed poo. (& trust me, we had a lot of pooed clothing!!!) we used liquid tide to soak overnight. and then wash in machine. at 30.degrees.
 
Isn't using a lower temp water more to do with not harming delicate fabrics or fading colours?

The hotter the water, the more germs, would be killed. 90 degrees after all is practically boiling your clothes.
The recommended washing temp on my sons cloth nappies is 60, so I guess that is adequate.

I wash whites in 60, sheets at 70, colours in cold.
All my baby's clothes I wash at 60, seems to work ok.

I don't think washing your whites in 90 degree water would turn them grey. I would have thought the opposite.

Napisan

On the usage of Napisan, when you use it in your laundry (e.g for dirtier loads or to sanitize baby's new clothes), would you use just the napisan by itself in the washing machine or together with the baby laundry detergent? Or is it preferable to use Napisan to soak the clothes first and then wash in the machine using baby laundry detergent? Thanks for your advice.
 
So baby's clothing to be laundered at 90C? 60C?

And should we fully dry it in the dryer?

We have a 2-in-1 washer/dryer, so I am currently washing baby's clothes at 90C with Vigor and Napisan. Then fully drying the clothes in the dryer. And then ironing all the clothes.

And yes this means that I do laundry in the middle of the night sometimes.

Overkill, right? **blush**
 
iron baby's clothes? are you nuts? unless they are special, "going out" clothes, forget it!!! they only wear them a few times before they spit oup on them anyway!

in the past 2 years (with 2 kids), we've only ironed 2 shirts for my son....that's it!

take the time you need and relax!!!!!!!!

we've been hanging up my girl's clothesto dry since it got nice out
