Hi all

My baby is almost 4 months old and I need to get him vaccinated.

Can you recommend any good clinics that don't charge too much?

I am looking at a package at Baptist Hospital for HKD 7000 but it appears to be alot!

Is there a cheaper option? can public hospitals do it? must you be a local/ID holder to get these prices?

Thanks

If you go to the MCHC it is free. There are some vaccines that are not included (ones that are NOT on the HK schedule) - but everything that is on the HK schedule is completely free.

thanks nicolejoy!

Another question though... i went on the site and it seems that ts only for those who are HK citizens or ID holders. What about foreigners? id the best option private clinic or a hospital with a well baby package?

thanks

Well if you are living here then you must have an ID card of some sort, and then your baby is eligible right? You don't have to have a PERMANENT ID card, just an ID card.

There are some shots that are not included on the HK schedule that are included in the schedules in other countries such as Australia/USA etc - so it is also wise to educate yourself on the schedule in your home country and decide whether or not you want to add on the additional vaccines. If you do, then possibly a private clinic would be better.

We go to the MCHC as well and everything is free. I would also look into a family doctor (not a ped) and sometimes they might have some packages that might be a bit cheaper than a pediatrician. We didn't get the extra vaccinations yet, but will add one with my daughter's 18month booster.

ladies, this looks like a good post to ask this question? what vaccinations are absolutely recommended/necessary for a newborn to take, i.e. before leaving the hospital (after delivery)?

MCHC's free vaccinations are not the up to date latest ones. Eg they give Prevnar which covers 7 strain virus but Prevnar 13 covers 13 strains.

Actually the public hospitals give the Prevnar7 (the oldest), the MCHCs give Prevnar10 (older than Prev13 which is VERY new) and private pediatricians give Prevnar13 (the latest).
