Hello,

I am due in early April and several of my friends have already told me that they would like to throw me a baby shower. They had planned on doing it before the baby is born, but as our ultrasound wasn't very clear on the gender, I'd rather wait until afterwards to avoid having only gender neutral gifts. My question is, how soon after the baby is born do you think it's wise to have the shower? We already have most basics so we can get by for a few weeks. There will probably be at least 15 people there who all, no doubt, will want to hold and cuddle the baby. Do you think I need to wait at least a month or more, or do you think it will be ok after 2 or 3 weeks?

Thanks for your thoughts!

Why not leave it a month, as that fits in nicely with the traditional Chinese one-month celebration. Hopefully that way you'll get lai see $$$ as well as gifts, so you can buy exactly what you want....

We had our baby shower a month after baby was born and let close family/friends hold our son- but not very many! We got so much stuff- espec. clothes and toys, so is best not to go too crazy buying either before baby is born. Also our son has grown so fast so many things he has only worn once or twice!

I'd wait a month too. D was born over a long weekend and most of our friends were away. So we invited them to ours 2 weeks later and it was way too stressful getting organized. Plus like Beky, I wasn't comfortable people holding him either.
