i have a 7 month old and she has started to vigorously shake her head over and over again in an unsmooth manner. almost like she's trying to shake something of her head or has a tick.... it's hard to explain.

is this normal? has anyone else's baby done this?

i have a 7 1/2 month old baby.. :)
he does it alot..

i read..
that it's an involuntary reflex...
alot of babies do that...
my baby does it when he wants to sleep...

but if you have any doubts you could always ask your peadi.
for your satisfaction...

im not too worried really... but if he keeps doing for a month more...
would like to meet a neurologist..

but.. then again im just getting ahead of myself..

see you tom :)

My baby does the same thing...and I have no idea why. She seems to be ok. I keep wondering if its an ear problem because she seems to be scratching it a lot or maybe her hair has grown out and she's just having fun feeling the hair on her neck? I'd love to know waht it may be........

my baby does it too. He used to do it when he was about 3/4 months old and was asleep and my mum said I used to do the exact same thing. Now he is 7 mths and is doing it while awake and he pulls at his ears and scratches the back of his head. I'm worried it maybe something to do with his hearing or ears

my son has always done it. actually it was the first "game" that we ever played together. he was lying on the bed and i was lying down beside him, looking at him.

he started shaking his head and then stopped and looked at me. then i'd shake mine in the same manner. then he'd repeat it. it was the first time he laughed "his head off" (excuse the pun). he was 5 months at the time.

now, he's almost 2 years old and still shakes his head, but now he does it to make himself dizzy! and he still LOVES it!

Mine too for 2 reasons:

1) searching for his pacifier -- he'd stop as soon as I stuck it in his mouth;

2) ichy -- mine has cradle cap and eczema (imagine the torture!). I could sooth him by lightly massaging his head

????
My little girl just started doing this and she will be 6 months tomorrow, I'm going to ask her doctor when we go for her 6 month set of shots... which is tomorrow 1/24

my son is 10 months old, he's been shaking his head every now and then, not often, since birth. we've noticed that he started to shake a little more like a game he plays at around 7 months old. i think it's nothing to be concerned about, they're just experimenting and probably finds it funny that they can do that.

My baby does the same thing

She shakes her head vigorously from side to side usually when she is tired. I think she is trying to nuzzle into somthing to fall asleep. Sometimes she just does it and i am not sure why. But she is otherwise fine. Im sure she is fine just wanted to nuzzle.

Mine started this around 8 months and continues to this day (16 months) Always when he's tired and trying to soothe himself to sleep, I wouldn't worry it's very normal :-)
