My son has just turned 4 months and I am thinking about giving him 'baby cereal' soon....I have no idea what is out there and which brands to look for and where to get them.

Any suggestions? thanks

we just used what was easily available at the neighbourhood supermarket. i didn't have the inclination nor the money to be traipsing all over hk looking for "specialist" cereals of any kind.

however, i didn't really start my two kids on any kind of cereal until they were closer to 6 months.

like i said, we just looked at what was in the supermarket and got one of those. they had rice and oats (if memory serves me correctly...it was 2.5 yrs ago, though, so memory may be off)

you only give a couple of teaspoons to start with anyway, so i don't think it matters much.

Organix is stocked in Park n shop and has a good range of baby rice and porridges. Like Cara, we waited til nearer 6 months.

I used Healthy Times organic brand cereal found at PArk n Shop. It goes really mushy, good for starters, and you can dilute it as much as you want.
I started my son on cereal at 5.5 months based on his needs, rather than age.

Thanks for your advice,

Will wait until he is past 5 months before giving him solids...can't wait to see his face...

I started my baby girl on Earth's Best (USA), which you can buy either at ThreeSixty, GREAT or Health Gate.

At Park N Shop, I found Organix (UK) and Bellamy (Australia) to be fantastic. ThreeSixty in Central has a good range as well, such as Holle (Germany), HiPP (UK) and all the brands I mentioned above. They are all organic. And yes, I waited till my baby was almost six months before I introduced her first rice cereal.

i tried several and in the end my baby has not liked rice cereal AT ALL so we just moved on to pureed stuff...

i used what was available - i was too picky about organic stuff, but if you prefer that stuff is available at Jason's and Taste too...it's finer and easier to digest I guess, in my opinion, so if your baby needs that then you've got that option. mixed in banana with in ...but didn't really start until 6mths when milk wasn't filling enough...

I started on solids when my son turned 5mths, just with rice cereals at first and I added pureed pumpkin to it after a week. Rice cereal is supposed to be a good starting food since it can be easily digested and most of them are fortified with iron as iron starts to deplete when they are 5-6mths old and hence you need to increase their iron intake.

It helps to make a big batch and freeze in small portions and just take out whatever you need everyday (call me lazy, I make rice cereal in bulk as well!). I have a lot of fun feeding the baby, but, it does get messy, really really messy..........
