My 6 months old daughter recently loves to sleep on her front! Not all the time, but sometimes, she would sleep on her side and then flip to her front. I would always gently move her back to her back to sleep. Sometimes, it'll work and she sleep in the back position but other times, she would stubbornly turn bakc to her front to sleep. Since it is recommended that babies should be placd on their back to sleep to prevent SIDS- what should I do? I would wake up now several time thru out the night to check on her and to turn her back!

you can roll up a towel tightly. fix the ends with elastic bands and then place it beside her to prevent her from rolling over.

however, they get to the stage where sleeping in one position is no longer comfortable for them. once my son was about 6-7 months, i let him sleep however he was most comfortable. i always put him down the way i wanted him to sleep then let him do whatever he wanted.

now at 18 months he spends 1/2 the night on his back and the other half on his tummy

My first child did this too at around 5 months. I also was up several times in the night turning her back. Eventually I rang the SIDS foundation for advice. They basically told me not to worry, if a baby can roll over that easily several times and they also can hold their head up too, then there shouldnt be cause for concern. The danger is if a young bub cannot hold their head up and ends up face down, then they cover their mouth and nose. Mabe look on the SIDS website for suggestions or even ring them to put your mind at ease. GOOD LUCK!

I was told by my health visitor in the uk, where I had my first child, that once they could turn over by themselves, you didn't have to worry and it was ok for them to sleep that way. I found that comforting and stopped me constantly turning him over. He's now nearly four and the biggest wriggler when sleeping you will ever meet.

Thanx -that is such a relief to know- now I don't have to keep waking up several times during the night! =)

it is normal once they can turn over to sleep on tummies. most of us were raied sleeping on our tummies! Sometimes its hard to believe we all made it - there is almost too much information nowadays...

mine is a almost 8 months now. like yours, he started sleeping on his tummy since 6 months. Now he wouldn't fall asleep unless he is on his tummy or sides. I was a bit freaked out at first -- checking him every half hour, now I can relax knowing that he actually sleeps better this way.

I was also scared because my baby started to flip over since she was 3 months old! If you are really worried, get a video monitor to ease your mind... otherwise, i don't think u have to worry.

At the time I was born (70ies), parents were told to have their babies sleep on their tummy! I have photos at home showing me sleeping on my tummy as a little baby, LOL! Now, "research" has found that the opposite (sleeping on back) is the better way.. It is quite confusing.
