Hi Mommies,

which of the big "Baby-Equipment" Stores do You prefer?
Is it Eugene Club, Bumps to Babes or Mothercare?
I am about to have my first Baby and need to buy EVERYTHING....
Just wondering price-wise and service-wise which offers be the best deals.

Thank You!

I preferred Mothercare because they had a catalogue that is easy to refer to when planning, and discussing with the salespeople.

i have a real problem with "everything".... there are so many things that are completely unnecessary, things you will never use, or only use once....i heard on here once that the "essentials" list from b2b was something like 2 pages long! that's insane!

On top of the better sales staff, I prefer Mothercare because it is more convenient than B2B. Plus with the HSBC card, you get a discount instantly. Whatever i can't get i get at B2B or 0/3 Baby.

Another thing to note is that Eugene Club is very much tailored for the local mum versus B2B which is easy for the expat mum. Everything is more familiar.

Yes, the stuff at B2B is more familiar to those who are in the know about baby stuff for North America. Although I`m from Canada, I had noooo idea about that kinda thing at the time. I myself was quite impressed with Eugene at first. Now I think B2B is great fun.
I`m with Cara, in that the suggested lists of `must haves` are ridiculously extravagant.
I made a very skimpy list, hunted down exactly what I wanted from various places.
Now I`m more `in the game` and enjoy baby shopping.
I think Mothercare is a very annoying shop. Too British (sorry Brits), too small a selection and limited brands.
As mentioned, B2B is great, very north american, but can be pretty pricey.
Eugene (would NOT buy a crib there) has a very fair selection of things, but as a previous poster mentioned, does seem to cater a bit more to local mummies, and carries some seemingly obscure Euro brands and is just not consistent with their stock choices and varieties. Check out the Central store on Queens Rd - the best one I have been to.

There is also the baby department in Sincere, Wing On and Apita. They have a selection of baby supplies as well.

I bought most of my baby gear at Wing On because they deliver with purchases over $500, and you can always return the items for store credits if you're not happy with any of your purchase. Plus, their prices are very reasonable. The only downside to them is that they mostly just carry the Japanese brands.

I find Eugene Club very frustrating. All their store labels are now in Chinese only so it is difficult to see what price things are on the shelves unless you read Chinese. They have some good stuff there but the combination of frustrating labels, hopeless staff and the fact they won't tell you the price of things over the phone (!!) means I avoid them unless necessary. I like the B2B staff and Mothercare too.

Personally I like B2B more, but definitely for clothes I'd go to Mothercare as they are cheaper and I kind of resent paying for expensive babygros that will be outgrown in 3 months.

I mainly used B2B for the stuff I bought in HK but I admit I cheated and got a lot of stuff in the UK and hauled it all back with me as way cheaper over there.
I also got some stuff (nursing chair, bath support) second hand in HK through the classifieds on "the other website" or from friends. Always worth asking friends who might have had their last child if they want to sell you a job lot of stuff.

The other thing I would say that the staff in all these babycare shops in HK are not that knowledgeable beyond what's printed on the box so worth doing your research on stuff like cots/ pushchairs/ slings/ car seats before you go in.

Finally......I agree with Carang that the "essentials" lists published by the shops go way beyond essentials. Some stuff on the list (eg cot bumpers) are not even recommended in many countries anymore and you need to think about how much space all the "nice to have's" take up.

WING ON! SO much cheaper. but for the occasional thing I go to B2B

Eugene is too expensive/overpriced. Mothercare is alright (better when they have sales!)

Jusco has some pretty reasonably priced items too
