A mother I spoke to at my daughter's playgroup told me about a children's disco in aid of Red Cross for Sichuan. Does anyone have more details?

Hi Chinchilla,

Yes, it is the launch of Baby Loves Disco Hong Kong. This is a smash hit family event in the US, UK, Japan and various parts of the world.

The details are as follows:

Date: 8 June 2008
Time: 3pm - 6pm
Venue: Dragon-i, UG, The Centrium, 60 Wyndham Street, Central

For tickets, you can go to www.babylovesdisco.com.hk or call 9160-3250

All the profits for Baby Loves Disco Hong Kong from this event will be donated to Hong Kong Red Cross to help the Earthquake victims.

I just looked on the website, but because I've never heard of this before, I'm still a bit unsure as to what this is all about. So do the kids get dressed up and go dancing? And up to what age is it for? And the parents dance too?

I would have loved to check it out on June 8, but it's dragonboat race day, so need to go support hubby while he's rowing! Maybe next time!

here is a little information about Baby Loves Disco:

baby loves disco is an afternoon dance party for little kids (6 months-7 years) and (especially) their parents: featuring best djs playing feel good tracks guaranteed to get those little booties moving and grooving.

this latest and most unlikely dance craze was started in the US and pulled over the globe to debut in Hong Kong, thanks to Coco Wong and Amanda Cook that took it upon themselves to bring the original family dance party to Hong Kong where they will be hosting and running the show.

The fun spills out from all corners of the coolest club in town: bubble machines, magician, face painting, DJ lessons, a chill-out area (with tents, and toys), diaper changing stations, healthy snacks, baby cocktails and dancing, lots of dancing (and yes, the cash bar will be open for mommy and daddy!). but at it’s core, baby loves disco is a community event that brings kids together with kids and parents and parents together with parents, guaranteed to be the best time you've had at a kids event.....

I had read about this some months ago and was wondering how long it will take to come to this part of the world. Basically parents can take babies along, anyone can dance (babies in parents' arms, older kids, adults) and the music would be from the 80s.

Not sure how loud the music would be for the teeny ones, but think the organisers would take that into consideration. Would have to miss this one cos family is visiting... another time.

Wow, that's not my thing at all, and I don't think my son would like it.

I'm sure lots of people will have fun though.

For the music, it will be kept at a level suitable for little ears. Everything at the disco will have the little ones in mind, so the place will be child proof.

There is an area for the younger ones with pop up tents etc. so that they too can enjoy the event safely. There are also magician, face painting, hair braiding, and DJ lessons.

For the adults, a lot of 'feel good' music has been selected, the aim is to get everyone up and dancing. There will be an open bar as well so if you want a drink or two, you can.

By nursing facilities I assume you mean a room for nursing specifically in which case no, as Dragon-I is pretty limited on separate rooms. There are changing facilities, but they are not of a size we could stick a chair in unfortunately.

There are long curved booths, which are reasonably private, and obviously being a disco the lights will not be full brightness, but will have some ambience, especially in the seated area.

Hope that answers your query even if the answer is not what you hoped for.

Thank you everyone for the support we have received, the first Baby Loves Disco is now sold out. There will be a small amount of tickets at the door tomorrow though.

Enjoy tomorrow!
