Nicholas has always been a favorite.

Sebastian and Daniel come in 2nd.

Josiah is different, haven't heard it before.

Rani

it's really a matter of what you like...also keep in mind that sometimes people will shorten a name...
so...daniel may become dan
josiah may become joe
nicholas may become nick...

i kept that strongly in mind when i was narrowing down my list for my boy...
eg. i really like the name harrison...but HATE harry... so that name was out the window...

i think that i've settled on liam zachary...now hubby is trying to pick out the chinese name...my poor boy is going to be named to death! LOL!

val:

Because of our backgrounds (English/Spanish/Canadian), we decided on a name that is pronounced (more or less) the same in English, Spanish, and French.

Does any of the names you like have more or less the same sounds in Chinese? We know a Chinese male whose name is "Hang" something, and he goes by "Hank".

I totally agree with carang about the shortening of the names. We personally know guys named Mickey and Jamie who now in their 30-40's try desperately to make everyone they know call them Mike and James, without much luck.

By the way, we like Nicholas too. "Nick" doesn't sound too baby-ish either.

i think that hubby has settled on Ga Leem (don't know the spelling) for the chinese name (means incorruptable)...kind of sounds like Liam as well...

Hey, when I was choosing a name for my son, I asked my brother to choose a name for me between Luke and Ryan. Being a strong Christian, he told me it's not the name that's count but the meaning behind the name. So i did a search on the meaning between each name, and I finally choose Luke because it means Bringer of Light rather than Ryan that means Little King. So, maybe you would like to check out the meaning behind these names before you make a decision. All the best. :gl:

from my book of baby names....
Nicholas (greek) victorious people. Religion: the patron saint of children.

Josiah (hebrew) fire of the Lord

Daniel (hebrew) God is my judge. Bible: a great Hebrew prophet.

Sebastian (greek) venerable. (latin) revered.

hope that helps!
