Baby Bjorn?

I am thinking to buy a Baby Bjorn carrier. Synergy. Is it good? Any comment? Can it be used for newborn?

Anyone who has old ones for sale?

I had a baby bjorn, not sure what kind it was, but it had an extra lower back support in it. I remeber using it with our 4 month old while on vacation, so using it a lot and it killed my back. I'd recommend something you tie on, generally anything you tie on is better for your back and anything with straps, as the tie ons are tighter to your body and less weight is "hanging" off of you. i like mei tai best.

baby bjorn destroyed my lower back after around 6 months. My husband and I prefer the ERGO - more padded straps, weight more evenly distrubuted. We bought it when he was 10 months old and he actually sleeps more in it because I think it's more of a natural hold for him rather than his feed dangling down like in the bjorn.

My friend has the Synergy and she said it still made her back hurt. Although my other friend has the normal one and said she just adjusted the back centre-piece and it was comfortable. I have the normal one and I rarely get to use it bc of the pain it causes after a while. I like my stroller. And when my baby fusses, I just hold him.

i have the bab bjorn active-- i found it very useful for the first 4 months with my baby...i never used the stroller then cos my baby never did like the stroller..the active model hs extra back support and there is also a breastfeeding position-- great for malls like times square where the baby room only has a change table and no chair to breastfeed.. ;( the bjorn was my only saviour cos i used it in movie halls, malls, supermarkets, buses n cabs.. found it real easy cos with the new born head support baby was always safe in my arms. I dont know how I would have climbed into taxis or buses with a stroller in one hand and a newborn in the other... now that my baby can hold her head up - i take the stroller.. also she's too heavy for me in the bjorn now.. ;)
so i'd recommend it for the first 3-4months..but not after..

Tks phoenixashbum. I don't intend to take the baby out so much during the first 3-4 months, so many I don't need a baby carrier at all ... That's useful to know!

hi, i have used the baby bjorn synergy since she is about 3 months old and till now, she is 8 months old and weighing 8 kg. didnt hurt my back at all. but have to make sure that the back support is tight around the waist + hip area to distribute the weight evenly. it is great, as i travel by buses quite often and sometimes in the malls, she don't want to sleep in the stroller and wants to be carried. good for support.
maximum weight for the baby bjorn is 12kg

I found the baby bjorn active the best - it has lower back support which is brilliant, especially if you already have a bad back. You do need someone to adjust it for you once its on - many people have it adjusted incorrectly and complain of sore shoulders or a sore lower back. If you have any problems, you should go into the baby store you buy it from and they can assist with adjusting it properly. I find its better to use once the baby is 4 weeks old. I used mine until they were around 8 months old.

i have the Baby Bjorn active. used it maybe 5 times, cos we didn't go out much with my daughter when she was small.

do you still want it?

I used Baby Bjorn for my son. It was fine with me till my son got around 8Kg or so. My back, shoulder and neck started hurting and could not carry him too long because of it. As well, my son found Bjorn is not so comfortable for him so I switched to ERGO. ERGO was fantastic! I never had any pains and my son loved it. As well, my husband used it and loved it so much better than Bjorn.
(My son is 20 months so he graduated from ERGO now.)

I strongly recommend ERGO for you.

I have to say when my 1st baby was below 6 months old, baby bjorn helped me heaps when I travel. but after 6 months, my baby weight was more than what my back could support, i changed to ergo and it saved my back! So i recommend to get an Ergo baby carrier straight rather than wasting money on that 6 months only.

i am not sure if i can post the web address here... but there's online shop in HK where u can buy online. :)

Baby bjorn is great and I have used it since my baby was 3 weeks old...
She is getting heavy now but I am still using it..

Most people I know using the Ergo brand are using it for older children. Anyone use it since birth? Can anyone using this carrier tell me how essential is the infant insert?

I can't find it anywhere! I even went to B2B in Central several times, but they are completely out of all Ergo stock until end of May and even then, they couldn't tell me whether they will actually have any of the inserts! I'm starting to consider buying a different carrier for a newborn and switching to my Ergo when my son is old enough, but that seems like a big waste of money that I'd rather save to spend on something else more essential.

I used the Ergo from newborn. I think that if you swaddle your baby and put the baby in the same way that you would with the infant insert, it'd be fine. The only thing with the infant insert is that it has a kind of foam border around the edge of it - presumably for head support - but I really think that swaddling would be just as good. I do think that the ergo is better for children about 2-3 months + when you can change them to straddling rather than sitting sideways - but I wouldn't bother buying a new carrier JUST for the first couple of months though!!
