Avent DECT baby monitor

This monitor line gets great reviews but costs a small fortune here in HK (thank you B2B)

Does anyone have it and are you happy with it?
Is it worth paying nearly double the US price for the top end one?
Or should I buy it in the US and use it here with a transformer? I just worry about a faulty transformer blowing my pricey monitor. Could that happen? I've not used a transformer before.

We got one about 6 months ago and absolutely love it. We live in a townhouse - if you count the basement we have 4 floors in total. Anyways, the monitor works beautifully throughout our entire house. I had tried to use the Angelcare that I had received as a gift when I gave birth to my first. The Angelcare worked fine for us as we lived in a 1800 sq ft apartment then. Plus honestly speaking, we probably stopped using the baby monitor when my first was 6 months old. By then you could really hear him from all corners of the house without a baby monitor and I just didn't think it was necessary to make myself even more jumpy. But now that we are in a townhouse, we really needed a monitor that worked well. Unfortunately I was in a hurry to find something that worked so didn't really have the time to shop around to find the best price. A transformer could work (I use it for something else in the house), the two problems I see are 1) you will need two (one for the monitor and one for the receiver), and 2) transformers are generally very heavy so might not be as mobile as you'd like. We bought it for our baby - born in september and love it.
The sound is great but you're right the Avent baby monitor is not cheap..
It provides also the temperature and humidity. Very efficient.

Just in case anyone is interested, I have found out this monitor is dual voltage so the US monitor will work in HK with only a plug shape changer! The monitor works great and I have purchased a second one for the new baby's room as well. I highly recommend it.
 
I know this is an older post, but in case anyone is interested, you can get the monitor in the UK for less than half the HK price and won't even need to change the plug.
 
I do not know how much is this Avent baby monitor.
We had one but the screen is small and it is only one to one.

My final solution is as following:

A router with wire and wireless access which you might already have.
IP cam with infrared, pan/tilt, wire and wireless function.

With proper setting, any computer, iPhone/pad, Android phone or pad,
Or any phone with a browser that support JavaScript (not tested)
can access the cam, even can hear or talk to the cam (secondary function)

Router cost around HKD400, cheapest IP cam is also around 400.
My final investment is HKD2000 for 1 router, 4 came
where it might be the cost of only one good brand cam.

The transmission can be better, but I feel it is enough.
