Asking for OB recommendation and advice on ultrasound scan

I am newly pregnant (5th week) and looking for a good OB close to where I live (Cyberport, South Island). Prefer female. Also I have a question for ultrasound scan: when should I have the first scan? 12th week? is it harmful to have one before the 12th week?
Thanks in advance!

I can only recommend you my doctor who is very caring and patient - Dr Patrick Chan at 2522 2500 in Central. I went to see him at 6 weeks but I think should be around after 8 weeks to see clearly with ultrasound. Maybe you can give the clinic a call to find out.

Hi and congrats!

I live in Pok Fu Lam and go to Dr Sally Ferguson in Wan Chai. I am having my first baby and I'm at 29 weeks and found her to be good so far.

She is at OT&P, Room 1501-1503 Shui On Centre, 8 Harbour Rd, Wan Chai. Ph: 2824 9112.

I had my first visit with her at 6 weeks, which she did do a scan. The next scan was at 12 weeks and then 20 weeks. Haven't had one since then. She is doing another one at 32 weeks.

Good Luck!

To paraphrase our (US) ob-gyn from the first child two years ago--if ultrasounds were bad for babies, ob-gyns would know because they ultrasound their own babies for the staff all the time.

Umm, that removes a lot of my worries!

Wonder if moms here have any hospital recommendation for me as well! Anyone close to where I live?

Tomato,

Do you have maternity insurance? The closest public hospital is Queen Mary if you don't. Private Hospitals on the Island are Matilda and Adventist.

Hi again.

The closest public hospital is Queen Mary. And then the private ones are near the Peak or Happy Valley.

I'm going to the Matilda which is on the Peak (http://www.matilda.org/eng/index.php)

Then I also know of the Adventist also on the Peak (http://www.hkah.org.hk/new/eng/index.htm) and the Sanatorium in Happy Valley(http://www.hksh.org.hk/eng/index.html)

I know it sounds really early, but you need to start looking into these hospitals if you decide to go private, because you have to book and bookings can fill fast! I had to book into the Matilda at my first 6 week OB appointment.

Hi Tomato1234,

Congrats! I'm also 5 weeks preggie (5 weeks and two days to be exact!) and this is my first so I'm so excited! Perhaps we can form a club :)

I had my first pre-natal check up today. I know it's way early. The doctor didn't do an ultrasound as nothing would show. The main purpose of today's visit was to book me into Matilda since we took a tour at Matilda two days ago and the CR manager who showed us around told me that they were "closing for October" already so we needed to book asap.

I guess this is not the information you were asking for but I just wanted to share it with you! Good luck!

seems that i really have to speed up...

Wow, I didn't know private hospital would be so popular! Will schedule a Ob meeting next week for booking.

i am so happy today!

I went to see Dr. Grace Cheung today and saw my baby's heartbeat for the first time. So excited!
Also I booked Matilda recommended by Dr. Cheung through the clinic.
Soon2bmom, how did you schedule the tour with Matilda? Do you like it?

Congrats Tomato!! That's awesome :)

Matilda is really good about replying to emails and that - you can schedule an appointment by emailing [email protected] - or if you prefer to call, the number is 2849 0355. The "Client Relations Manager" is Inty Ting.

I hope that helps!!

Nicole
