are antenatal classes required?

I've just been thinking of this... I'm 23 wks along now and dh and I have not attended or signed up for any antenatal classes. As this is our 2nd child, I guess it's just not high on our priority list. But I just saw another post where someone said that the husband had to attend the classes to be in the delivery room. (We are going to Queen Mary). Is that right? For what it's worth, my dh is a HK perm. resident.

Thanks

Katie,

Not sure if they enforce this rule for 2nd time parents. Do you think he can flash his Student ID and get in?

We were told the same thing, but when it came down to it no one even asked if we'd been to the classes or not (QMH). We've just been to the Annerley 2nd time parents class - about $900 for 2 sessions, I think. I found it very helpful and reassuring (found the TSan Yuk classes the first time a bit useless).

we did annerley too and delivered at the QMH. Annerley gave us a letter to confirm my husband had attended the antenatal classes but on the day of delivery it wasn't needed. Also, I remember on the labour ward tour at the QMH the midwife saying that they were not a necessity anymore.

Thanks for the answers. I appreciate it. I guess we won't worry about it then. I've been reading books and feel fairly confident that all should go ok.

Thanks!

geiboyi,
How did you find the class for 2nd time parents at Annerley.
We did the course there the first time around, but I hadn't considered doing so this time. Did you find it helpful?
