How old was your child before you took them swimming? Any trouble getting them to enjoy playing in the pool?

i started taking my first when he was 8-10 weeks old, of course, he had a swimming nappy on.

Used to pour water over their head in the bath so they are used to having water in their face, eyes particulary...

Took my first child swimming for the first time when she was about 5 months old. I know of people who take their babies swimming from the very beginning--maybe 1-2-months-old. Some babies are born using Waterbirth and that technically would be their first swim, right? LOL.

It shouldn't matter as long as your baby is healthy and you're being safe with him or her in the pool.

First took my baby swimming when she was about 3-4 months old and she loved it. Was able to submerge her briefly at 5 months. As lesliefu mentioned, playing with water when bathing was helpful in getting her comfortable.

i submerged both my kids when they were 10 weeks old. there is a trick to it, but all babies can do it without any problems.

With son we did 4 months and with daughter 5 months. He really didn't mind but she did so didn't push it and started again when she was 8 months. He is now 29 months and she's 14 and they are NUTS for the pool. My husband is a big believer in acclimating them early . . .

Do you mean going to the pool to swim or swimming lessons? I took my daughter for swimming lessons at 2 and guaranteed, she would develop swimmers ear (type of ear infection) in a day or two. I had to pull her out till she was older. Just be aware that some kids are prone to this type of ear infection.

My son took lessons at 4.5 months - my daughter we just took to the pool. Guess my children seem to be able to handle as neither can ever had an ear infection and they swim weekly (can't say the same for my husband who ended up with a grommet put in ...)
