Anyone seeing Dr Alexander Doo?

Hi Everyone,

I have just found out I'm pregnant. Just by coincidence, I had myself booked in to see Dr Alexander Doo this Thursday for a gynaecological appointment (We've been trying to get pregnant for a few months and I just wanted to get an ultrasound to make sure everything was OK for conception).

Anyway, I've called his office and let them know that the appointment will now be pregnancy related, however I was just interested to hear some feedback on him.

The reason I originally made the appointment with him is because I've read some info in these forums and heard he is very experienced but also has a good bedside manner. I'd really like to have a Doctor who has a kind manner, as I don't really feel comfortable with Doctors who have abrupt/direct personalities.

Would love to hear some current feedback on this if anyone can assist.

Thanks in advance and have a great day

Hi

He's a great Dr, would completey recommend him. I didn't deliver with him in the end because i wanted a natural birth and he prefers C-sections and I didn't feel he would give me the opportunity (I had twins). I think he is very cautious because the majority of his patients have had fertility treatment.

He never rushed an appointment, and always answered all our questions, plus if you call with a problem he will always return your call within minutes.

Pinkballerina, you're in good hands with Dr. Doo. He is good and kind. He explains things well, answers your questions, does thorough scans, calls u back soon after you call him/ his office. I saw him and Dr. Leong (same clinic, we were actually under Leong but saw Doo whenever Leong was out, and i preferred Doo!) for my first and had him for my second.

I told him i wanted a normal birth (normal conception, no fertility treatment) and he really helped me get that. I can tell you that halfway through the actual birth i wanted a c-section, i was in pain, tired, etc. and he made me go through the whole push and push and we had our normal birth. I did tell him i wanted to kill him at some point but thanked him a lot when i could go home after 3 days and not have pain from a cut.

We've kept in touch with him for other gyne matters after that and i have to say, i'd use him again in a heartbeat were we to have more kids. He's great.

Halo - ditto comments above, good bed side manner and very cautious. He also find me a confirmed booking at Matilda very quickly. However, he is very busy and late for appointments.

I had a miscarriage earlier this year. When I became pregnant again, he saw me every week and put me on medications, of course the visit was very important to put my mind at ease. During my week 12, I experience bleeding and he saw me every other day and he put me on bed rest.

It has been 3 weeks since I saw Dr. Doo and looking forward to my 16 wk scan on Friday.

Finger crossed

Hi Ladies,

Thank you so much for your feedback regarding Dr. Doo. It was very reassuring and I really appreciated all the information you provided.

My appointment with him last Thursday went well. He was very personable and didn't rush the appointment at all, so I was able to ask as many questions as I needed to.

I have another appointment next week (Thurs) and I think they will do an ultrasound then. I'm 5 weeks today, so will be about 6.5 weeks by then.

first-time, I am very sorry to hear about your loss earlier this year. How did your 16 week scan go on Friday? I hope everything is progressing well for you.

Best wishes to you all and thanks again for your help :)

Good to hear you find Dr. Doo reassuring.

It was fun watching Dr. Doo count the fingers and toes, checked all the organs - heart (with 4 chambers), kidneys (right/left), brain, limps, etc. Half the time I can't see what he claimed are there - I guess thats why he is paid the big $.

Enjoy :-)

My wife is also seeing Dr. Doo - and to be honest he is GOOD! Expensive, but peace of mind is not worth skimping on. Very good in answering questions.

Thanks so much for the feedback papa2b. It's great to get a male perspective on Dr. Doo. I'm pretty sure my husband will like him too, which is very important. I also agree that you can't really put a price on peace of mind.

So, all in all, I think I've made the right choice.

Thanks again!

i have to tell you pinkballerina, a friend's husband loves Dr. Doo and goes on and on talking to him even about non-pregnancy related stuff while the wife waits for a chance to ask about the baby! And my hubby - not an easy one to please - also thinks quite highly and enjoys Dr. Doo's manner. He came to see my in the hospital after i had delivered, in the evening of the day before i was to be discharged, just to see everything was okay - and he was flying that same night to Paris for a family holiday. i so appreciated that.

Your feedback is very reassuring Roshna. Thanks for that. I think it's very important for the Dad's to be happy with the decision. My GP actually mentioned that there is one female Ob/Gyn in HK (not mentioning any names) that a lot of men don't like apparently, so I made sure I steered clear of her! Haha.

Thanks again.

Cost of Dr. Doo

Hi Everyone,

I just found out im expecting, probably in my 2nd month now.

I am leaning towards going to Dr. Doo, but i want to know how expensive really is he? I will be paying out of my own pocket, so this is a strong consideration for me.

How much is your routine monthly visit + scan?

Thank you ladies!

Congrats on your pregnancy! I hope you are feeling well

I am 7 weeks pregnant, so have been seeing Dr Doo for the past few weeks. My consultations with him are every fortnight at the moment and so far I've had two scans (one of them was unscheduled due to some health concerns). I just had a look at my most recent bill and it was $900 for the consultation and $1000 for the scan.

At the moment I seem to be having scans every two weeks but I'm sure they won't be as often once I'm further along.

The biggest expense I've had so far were the blood tests required for the private hospital booking. They were $3500, which seemed totally crazy to me!

So far my husband and I have been very happy with Dr Doo. He has a great bedside manner and seems to be quite experienced and efficient.

Hope this info helps!

Hi all
I'm seeing Dr Doo and am really happy with him. He is very thorough and takes time to look at every aspect of the babies (I'm having twins) on the ultrasound.
He was also adamant that I should leave work at 28 weeks and he wrote me a letter for my employer with no problems.
My appointments cost $2300 (because there are 2!) and I was confirmed at the Matilda very quickly.
If you can get an appointment in the morning. By the afternoon he is very busy and I often have to wait 30 mins.

I had Dr Doo as well on the recommendation of a friend of mine. Since it was my first I didn't know what to expect and didn't have many friends with babies so it was a steep learning curve. My friend had a good point, you really have a few months to find the right doctor and you should find one that suits you.

From my first meeting, I liked Dr Doo but wanted my husband to meet him too. My husband liked him too so we went ahead with Dr Doo.

Dr Doo really is fantastic. As everyone mentioned above, he's very patient, never rushes you, let's you ask all the questions you need to etc. As a first timer and not originally from HK, I felt it was really important to have a doctor you can trust and talk to and he definitely is that.

Re Natural or C Section, I had the opposite. Dr Doo suggested that I try Natural. In the end I needed to have an emergency C Section but we tried for a long time for Natural until my temperature went up and the baby's heart beat started to drop a little.

I found him overall to be quite neutral on everything and pointing out the facts that you need to be aware of. He's definitely not cheap but we felt it was totally worth it. His nurses are also lovely. We found out that several other friends also used him and all had glowing reviews.

The only thing I would suggest re hospitals is to visit the hospitals you are thinking of and see how you feel there. I think part of the anxiety is the actual delivery and it's good for you to have an idea of what you're in for, what sort of room you want, what the staff are like etc.

Hi Jube,

As mentioned in earlier posts, I'm also seeing Dr Doo and really like him. I just wanted to ask which hospital you delivered in? Were you able to do a tour of the hospital beforehand? I think your suggestion of visiting the hospital before delivery is a very good idea and would like to do that myself.

Hi

I am looking for an obstetrician and was wondering if anyone had any idea as to Dr Doo's fees for delivery - natural and elective c-section?

Thanks!

As mentioned above, I'm seeing Dr Doo but I am actually not sure what his fees are for delivery. Our insurance covers it, so I haven't had to worry about it. I'm sure if you contacted his clinic http://www.thewomensclinic.com.hk/, they would give you the information.

Good luck and congratulations on your pregnancy!

Dr Doo specialises in fertility issues - he has a great manner, is easy to talk to and is sensitive to your concerns (in my opinion). I believe he has one of the highest IVF success rates in HK.

He's also one of the most expensive in HK, but I suppose that's because he gets results.

Hi everyone. I've been seeing Dr. Doo since I decided to get my first blood test at 5 weeks (I'm now almost 13 weeks). He really is fantastic and I adore him. I've been in to see him quite a lot due to complications, but Dr. Doo is always very patient, explains everything and I'm more than comfortable with him. Yes, he's expensive (especially since our insurance doesn't cover prenatal), but very very much worth it.

I don't know what his delivery fees are, but we are booked into Matilda for natural delivery. If anyone knows what his fees are, please share.
