Puppp

i went for my check-up on tuesday and told my ob that i resorted to taking one piriton pill at night before i went to bed. it controlled the itching for almost 20 hrs. i ended up taking it 2 nights in a row before the check-up. funny thing is, after i saw my ob, she said it was wise to take the piriton but i didn't need it anymore as my rash has gone! but i did ask about topical lotions/creams just in case i needed it before my next check-up and she said to use calamine lotion (u can put it in the fridge and use it cold if u like). she said it's the most effective with the least side effects and has no steroids...

hope this helps!

I had PUPP when I was approx 30 weeks pregnant - my OB refered me to a dermatologist who gave me some anti-histamines and steroid creme for topical application. I also applied some Indian home remedies for skin rashes (turmeric + sandalwood powder). The rash disappeared in approx 4 weeks!

Where can you buy calamine lotion in Hong Kong?

For those itchiness and rashes, do they go away in the morning and only hit at night?

I am lucky enough to have PUPP too!

Hi,

I didnt have it in my first pregnancy but this time around I got it when I am in my 34th week. It's driving me crazy and it's preventing me from sleeping well at night. I tried Calamine lotion and it didnt work. I've tried Burt Bee's Baby Powder (cornstarch, baking soda, kaolin clay) and it stops the itching for a few hours but this PUPP keeps spreading. I have it on my tummy and a little bit on my breast.

Does anybody know of any cream or anything that can get rid of it really fast? My doctor prescribed some cream but it doesnt really work.

Now I really want to give birth early.

if u haven't been prescribed piriton for colds/allergy during ur pregnancy before, ask ur OB if it's ok to take some. it worked for me and i didn't even have to take it 3 times a day, only once at night before i slept. at least u get a good nites sleep and only worry about the itching during the day after the piriton wears out!

good luck... (my PUPPP went away after about 10 days)

Maybe you would like to check out this product line available in MANNINGS (branches that have pharmacy).

I am 34 weeks pregnant with my second baby. I have allergies since 2002 when I move to HK. (except the time when I am pregnant with my girl). When I am at the baby fair this year, I am introduced to DermaVeen. My itching condition improve very much, since I start using the Soap Free Wash. (Though I still need to watch out that I do not eat things with nuts). Hope this product could help you.

: )

I had terrible itching which started around 30 weeks on my chest, back, arms. I used dermaveen & sativa products and you can get the whole range from Fanda just below World wide house.. I also used prickly heat powder which helps alot.

Hi!
I had PUPPS in my last trimester of pregnancy.
I itched and scratched like no tomorrow!! No calamine lotion or any lotion (E45) would help.
Had no sleep whatsoever ( or whatever little sleep I would get - between going to pee a gzillion times , baby kicking and discomfort from baby bearing down- was gone!)

HOWEVER, there is help!
I was hospitalised as they thought it was something more severe and related to pregnancy . It's a liver disease called CHOLESTASIS. ( Incidentally, do get this checked as the symptoms are very similar to PUPPS and could get misdiagnosed)

Anyway, fortunately it wasnt. The upside of it was,
whilst in the hospital, the doctors ( UK doctors) prescibed PIRITON - which is an allergy drug for things like hayfever. It was safe to consume during pregnancy and really helped in relieving the itching.
I EVEN MANAGED TO GET SOME SLEEP!!

Hope this helps.
Not sure if you can find piriton in HK but am sure you can google or ask your gynae.

Oh!- The scars from PUPPS faded eventually after some time after birth... so no worries about bikini days after!!
x

yes - my ob prescribed piriton too - my dose was one pill, three times a day, is safe for pregnant mums and it is available at most pharmacies in hk.

however, i only took one pill at night before sleeping and for me, the pill only wore out towards evening the next day so i didn't need to take 3 every day! i have pupps for about 3 weeks during the last month or so of my 3rd pregnancy.

I did have PUPPP when I was pregnant with my daughter. I started having it around 30th week and throughout nearly the rest of the pregnancy. It was very itchy and with the papules all around my belly only. Though my obstetrician said it was a viral infection, I still thought it was PUPPP and I just tried some oatmeal bathing gel and calamine lotion. And Calamine lotion did have a little relief but I needed to use quite alot with it. But anyway, Calamine lotion is safe to use. It suddenly subsided just a few days before the delivery.

my husband kept saying it was the food i ate and today i couldn't stand the itching anymore and went online and searched it and i think i've got PUPPP too AM DYING TO ITCH AND SCRATCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

first thing tomorrow i'm going to get calamine lotion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was listening to a Pregtastic podcast and they covered the issue about PUPPS. I agree with the rest that Calamine lotion is highly recommended. I heard from the podcast that this is typical for moms with baby boys...though I saw in the poll that moms with baby girls can have them too.

I hope you'll feel better soon. Good luck on your pregnancy!

I had this too...! Doctors didn't know what it was (which was v annoying) as I had read up on it and diagnosed myself... it took them 3 weeks & daily visits to the hospital to work it out.

Unfortunately I really got it bad on xmas day and in UK NOTHING is open so i couldn't get calamine lotion.. sounds mad but tried potato peel and it really helped... then eventually only thing that helped was zinc & castor baby cream.

Anyways it did eventually pass so don't worry too much...
the final product is worth everything you go through :) x

I think I just got it. I am at week 21, and it all started on last Monday... My belly was suddenly so itchy. I have been using olive oil once or twice daily for several months already, and never had any problem.

I have been trying not to scratch, but last night I did scratch a little bit through my pajama, and after few hours, the area (both side of my belly) were burning and itchy, and with rash.

Now I am also using tons of aqueous cream. After reading about the subject, I think I'll first try doing compression with oatmeal, and taking cold/warm shower instead of hot ones. Hope it help :-(

Hi Gataloca,

What I did that helped was turning on the aircon at full blast and exposing my tummy when I slept.... At least that helped me sleep through the night. Mine never went away until a week after I gave birth although I think mine started a lot later.

Wish you luck.

Thanks Val23. I think I didn't have PUPPP after all. The itchiness went away after few weeks.. In the mean time, I did compression with oatmeal, and that helped a lot. Anyway, probably it was just the weather being too dry back then.

I kept using the aqueous cream daily since then, and now at week 36, my belly is still fine.

yes, i had puppp with 1st (girl), but not with 2nd (boy)

thankfully... it was the most uncomfortable experience, worse than nausea worse than anything! i had rashes all over my arms, legs, belly. legs were the worst and i still have a few scars from scratching 3 yrs later. mine started at beg of 3rd trimester, and lasted till the day i gave birth. immediately i felt 90% better on the day, and all went away within a week.
i used everything, but thought aveeno oatmeal baths (2-3x a day), sarna lotion (you can find it on drugstore.com very stinky but works well) worked... other lotions, aqueous creams, did not work for me, i think i had a pretty bad case tho.
i was concerned that it would happen again for my 2nd pregnancy, but i did NOT get it :)

had it with second pregnancy girl but not with 1st boy
hi all i had this with my second pregnancy in late third trimester and still have it baby is now 12 weeks doctor gave me a cream which helps for a few hours but said i need steroids to get rid of it if it continues in a few weeks i will need to get the steroids - have to not be bf to have the steroids

have to not be bf to have the steroids

Please check the name of the medicines with the Leaders from LLL-HK before you decide whether or not it is really necessary to wean while taking the steroids. The email address is [email protected]

Each of the Leaders in Asia has a subscription to the online Medications and Mothers' Milk by Thomas Hale. This book is considered the ultimate authority on which drugs can be taken while breastfeeding.

Doctors often don’t have the latest information and so cover themselves by saying that you have to wean.

Best wishes,
