Hi, just wondering if anyone can share some experiences on giving birth at Prince of Wales? I heard it?s a very busy ward throughout the year. I will be giving birth there in July and want to know whether getting an epidural is possible at a public hospital at such a busy ward?
Thanks!

Hi,

My son was born there in Dec 2017. If you know that you definitely want an epidural, my advice to you would be to tell them right away, and continue to remind the nurses throughout the process. I went in thinking I would try without it first, and then ask for it if needed.

About 4 hours in or so, I told the nurse that I wanted an epidural. She said she would put me in the queue. As I went into labour at night, there was only one anaesthesiologist around so I am sure he/she was spread quite thin!

By the time the anaesthesiologist became available, I was already too far along and the nurse said it would not help.

Overall the level of care at the Prince of Wales was good, and I would do it again, except make sure I am clear about wanting an epidural as soon as I am admitted! =)

Hope this helps!

It was painful. =P Next time I know I could still manage without an epidural, but I think I would prefer to be more comfortable throughout the whole process and will definitely insist on one.

Best of luck! You are nearly there! =)
