Anyone expecting in April 2011?

Hi Mariac and all the other ladies due in April.

Sorry its taken so long to get back on here. I'm now 9 weeks, I had a scan at 8 wks and all is well so far. I saw Dr Jennie Ng in Melbourne Plaza, liked her a lot and will go there again for a 12 week scan if Queen Mary does not provide one, as this is where I am having my antenatal care and giving birth.

I have been really suffering this time round with gas and indigestion also, something I usually only experience in late pregnancy, so that together with the nausea and tiredness (and hot weather) is making this first trimester the hardest of my three pregnancies. Some are saying this means it must be a girl this time but I'm not so sure!

Hope you are all doing well and apologies again Mariac for taking so long to get back to you.

Good luck everyone! xx

Hi everyone! how are we all on this (another hot and humid) Saturday morning!

SydneyGal - I am also from Sydney and had my daughter at Royal North Shore Hospital last year..(which was brilliant) and this time around, we are looking at giving birth at Princess Margaret Hospital with some public/ private antenatal care. I was booked into do the Oscar test at PMH but decided to go private as you get the results in an hour compared to having to wait two weeks if you get it done at PMH. Also, you get a DVD and photos of the scan - how can I resist that! If you are interested, here is the website: http://www.feminahealthcentre.com/charges- I heard excellent reviews of Dr Shell F Wong and we will find out next week.

Hello again everyone,

I can't wait for this hot weather to subside! Makes it so hard to feel motivated for walks outside.

banane76 and hkmum3 - good to know I'm not the only gas pain sufferer here! Once in a while I get little jabbing sensations on either side of my lower abdomen and I can't tell whether it's gas or things stretching and making room down there! I should try more ginger tea, I'm a lil lazy about it.

Good luck everyone with your Oscars, hope you get good results! And then soon we can meet...

Sometimes the lower abdominal "pain" on the sides is your uterus stretching too...I've been getting that lately and I remember that from the first time. Ginger ale, ginger tea, it's all good! Can't wait for the hot weather to subside either. Off to Canada for a couple weeks and then back for my Oskar and then maybe we can get together for tea!

Hello all April mums! Count me in! It is so good that we get to talk here even though some might find it a bit too early.. :) I have been burping most of the time, thirsty and tired since I found out I m preggy...Lately I find that I feel hot especially at night time and I couldn't help but keep taking cool stuff from the refrigerator. I don't know if this is heartburn (I thought it only happen towards the end of the pregnancy?!) Violet, have u really make up your mind on giving birth at PMH? I been there to registered the OSCAR test and don't really like it there, it seems over-loaded. ( or this is the same for every hospital in HK?) My pvt gyne told us that we need to decide soon whether we r going pvt ( He is attached to Baptist), else there will be no bed for me... Is anyone decided to go back to their home country to give birth?

have a great day everyone!

mavislohsp,

i also feel warm all the time - this is not heartburn. my doc told me this is the escalated metabollic rate (new cells being produced) and also the progesterone effect. the thirst is common too. i get a lot of heartburn on tops of that and STILL throwing up every other day though i'm nearing the end of 12 weeks! i thought about going back to NY to give birth but a) i've got good insurance here and b) i can't deal with not being in my own home during labor and then not being able to bring the baby home after birth, not to mention all the traveling. i think a good birthing experience is possible in HK if you have a good doctor and possibly a doula as well during birth.

i feel like i'm the only one in this group who hasn't signed up for an Oscar...but i'm happy with my decision. if it came down to it, i would not do an amnio based on an "assessment" and my doctor said that if i wasn't open to an amnio then there was not much point in doing the Oscar. either way though, i can understand and respect one's decision to go through with it.

i can't wait for us all to meet!

Hi mariac, I'm not getting an Oscar either... It wouldn't change our decision.

I had a bit of a scare this morning when I woke up bleeding. I rushed to a&e in tears.... They did an ultrasound and I saw heart beating and bleeding has now stopped but it gave me a huge scare....I have an appointment at the early pregnancy clinic tomorrow....fingers crossed everything is ok....

Hi Ladies, I have to admit I m a very ignorant mum-to-be (This is my 1st...). All I know about OSCAR test is testing Down Syndrome and since it is recommended by the gyne and I didn't ask much about it, assumed it is for the good of the baby... SydneyGal, you must be very scared and I could understand cos I have spotting during my first few weeks... Take a good rest, listen to some music to sooth your mind and I'll cross my finger for you...

SyndayGal,

My heart goes out to you right now. I can only imagine how you must have felt and still feeling but as the doctors may have already assured you - this is not uncommon around 8/9 weeks. I think it's a great sign that they found the heartbeat and the bleeding already stopped. Take complete rest and send positive energy to your baby. And do feel free to PM or write messages here if you need to talk anytime - I check pretty regularly. My prayers are with you.

it's ok you're not ignorant. i tend to ask too many questions and over-research things. the oscar test is neither bad nor good for the baby. what is does is it "makes an assessment" of the risk of down syndrome based on certain factors such as age, race, weight, smoking history, etc. if your risk is high they'll ask you to do an amniocentesis (just google it) which is a risky procedure but which is a more accurate test for down syndrome. If your risk is low then great, they'll just leave it at that. either way they can't really do much about the assessment or the amnio result unless you're open to an abortion following an amnio with a bad result....some people say they just like "knowing" and that's fine too. hope this helps!

btw, is anyone experiencing a little shortness of breath? like it's harder to take a deep/full breath. alas, why am i still getting new symptoms on top of the existing ones!! anyway just wanted to know if anyone else is feeling the same...

Hi mariac,

I do have the same symptom. It happen when I walk for a longer distance or climb staircase, and sometimes after a meal, my heart will start beating faster and difficult to take full breath. I read on the book it said is because our heart has not yet enlarge to coup with the blood needed to pump to our little B...

Mine due May. Might as well jump on board as there is such a tiny forum here. I will be giving birth the 3rd time and second time in HK. Not so keen on POW again. BUt may not have a choice becuase of my district.

Welcome Okezie! Yes, our group isn't that big yet but many of us haven't found the comfort zone to share the pregnancy yet. What's POW? Hope to find out more about you as we chat.

Hi everyone~

Im due 15th April 2010 and 12 weeks tomorrow and had my scan last week, saw my baby also heartbeat and tears just coming down from my eyes.

Im based in macau but planning to give birth in HK, thinking of tsuen wan adventist hospital... but so many hidden charges for private hospitals!!! anyone has good recommendations?

my morning sickness had eased down a bit but my lower left and right abdomen started hurting on and off sometimes, especially when I start walking fast! hopefully its just the round ligament pain..

hi babyblue#1,

welcome aboard! congratulations on making it to 12 weeks. i wouldn't worry too much about the pain on right/left abdomen unless it is too excruciating. i have the same symptom sometimes and when i sit down and rest a bit, it goes away.

i haven't had a personal experience with private hospitals in HK yet but from what i hear, matilda is the best, then adventist and then canossa. hope this helps. :)

Hi Mariac,

Thanks for your advise. I personally would prefer private hospital just because i had bad experience in publics.. but at the same time, I'm worry that the fee might go all the way higher than our budget. So yeah, I have finally deicded to go to Tsuen Wan adventist hospital because the location is the closest to my parents.

For the pain, the first time I had it was last week... for 5 hours straight, but not unbearable, just annoying. Ever since then it just keep coming and going and sometimes quite sharp.

I'm just happy that my morning sickness had eased a lot means I'm now always hungry! :P

btw, are any of you ladies starting to show? i don't think i am although my upper abdomen is bigger probly from gas/bloating. do you any of feel like you can put your hand over your abdomen and feel any vibrations? i have, a few times, but not all the time. sometimes i feel helpless not knowing what's going on down there. can't wait for my check-up next week!

Hello everyone, mine due early May 2011. The first time of being mom-to-be makes me nervous. I don't really know what to expect to give a birth in HK... I am 9 weeks but already started to show a few weeks ago, due to the bloating I believe, especially in evenings after the dinner. From time to time I do feel vibration in my lower abdomen. Does it have anything to do with the fetus' heartbeat? The most annoying is that I have no appetite at all. Everyday I have to think about what kind of food I like to eat because I have to eat something. Normally from which week would your appetite come back? Do you gals have some exercise at this stage? I am not working, so I keep walking outdoor for an hour everyday and doing some light cardio like cross trainer every other day. I want to start pre-natal yoga but have been told I should wait till the first trimester is over...

Hi

Hi ladies,
Its great to see this thread. I am due late April 2011. Currently in my 10th week and anxious to get over morning sickness and the fatigue. I have all the symptoms you guys are having and just left with zero energy although i am eating every 2 hrs.

I am seeing Dr. Derek Lo. He is great and so far i have had a great experience. I am scheduled for my 12 week checkups and hoping everything goes well. Btw.. are you ladies taking any prenatal vitamins (besides folic acid)? Can you digest them? My stomach seems to be super sensitive these days.
Never knew pregnancy is this tough, but i am glad to have a support group of women in the same boat!
