I have been suffering from stuffy noses and blocked nose! v annoying! :( other than that. not much symtoms .. of coz am often hungry!!

:pregnant:

Hi Ninimo, Congrats to you too! Yes, I went for an ultrascan at week 5 with Dr. Grace Cheung and have another appt. with her next week. I hope to book Matilda Hospital during week 9, heard thats the procedure...what about you?
I have severe nausea all day everyday, very uncomfortable although I haven't actually been sick yet...the only thing that helps is constant eating, ugh!! I'm going to try to buy sea bands at Watsons and see if they help.
Where are you located? I'm seeing my doctor in Central next Wed., let me know if you're available to get together, it would be great to meet someone else going through the same stuff. I'm the first of my local friends to get pregnant, stinks to cancel girls drinking nights.

hi ya Riley..Congrats to you too!!!!
so how many weeks are u now? week 6? see any heart beat??
i havent thought of anything yet - in regards to where to ve the baby etc.. i jsut wait for my week 6 scan first.. and then see how it goes from there! Its also my first! so am v excited as well!
Are u working? i am working full time, so feeling stuffy nose and sick and bloated and often tired aint helping!

Have u told anyone yet? i just told my mom and my hubbie.. and am goign to wait a few more weeks before i spill the beans to all!!!
i havent had any nausea yet... and am still eating alot. and gaining weight FAST! clothes feeling a bit tight already! i am scared -its only week 5!

so glad there are more of us out there.. sharing our first trimester together!!

Hi Ninimo,

Thanks, I'm just entering week 8 now and actually saw the baby's heartbeat yesterday!!!! My husband came with me and we were both amazed : ) The baby now measures 1.73 cm, about the size of a raspberry!

I've only been in HK for 3 mos from the US and was looking for work til I found out the good news, I think this will be enough to keep me busy...When will you stop working? It must be tough to get up and go every morning when you're not feeling great, lucky you don't have this awful nausea that I have...

My stomach feels a bit bloated, but I'm trying to exercise as much as I can within reason:0) I have told everyone as its hard to contain the joyous news, but everyone shares when they're ready.

I went to Bumps to Babes in central to check it out and they have a great selection on maternity and everything baby, a bit overwhelming...

Now I just need to decide definitely on where I want to give birth, hospitals get booked VERY quickly.

Good luck with your first scan!!!

Hello both,
I'm also due July but have held off joining the group until now. I'm very scared this time around after a MMC earlier this year.
I saw the heartbeat on a 6 week scan and have another booked in 2 weeks time (I'll be just over 9 weeks by then).

I'm also thinking about hospitals and it's true you have to book at around 9 weeks to secure a place.

Would be nice to get to know both of you. I work full time but I'm usually free 1 evening during the week and at weekends.

hi Riley & Cherina!
Welcome cherina and congrats!
Riley, U are sooo lucky u dont have to work! I keep telling my husband, working and pregnant doesnt go together! Esp waking up early and then feeling soo tired after 1 hour! Also looking like u are at week 12 rather than at week 6 .. doeesnt help! i am sure my colleages are wondering.. - jeez she is getting really fat! I am trying to hold back from buying any " baby" stuff till i am more stable.. as i had a MMC before .. and that time i was gone crazy buying lots of stuff v v early! so this time.. i will hold back and wait!!!

Cherina, i understand what u mean. i also had a mmc back 2 yrs ago and it took us over 20 months to conceive again! So this time we are really really happy! I had my scan just on wed, at week 6, we saw the heart beat too and a blob!!

My doc tells me to pick hospitals too... i am thinking mabye baptist on kowloon side? any suggestions? where u girls planning to go? we dont have insurance to cover it so its really really expensive! But i want to do it the private way!

Waht date iin July are u girls due? At the moment i am due 13th July!

Hello,

Ninimo - I know it's hard working full time even without really bad sickness. I've got my colleagues from the UK here at the moment and it's really tough to keep it quiet. Every time we go out in the evening I have to find a different excuse for not drinking.....

I live on Kowloon side but am planning on booking a hospital in HK because that's where my doc delivers. I heard the Adventist is already fully booked for July so I think it will be the Matilda (just hope the insurance covers it!)
I visited the Canossa before but didn't really like it. I'm sure the care is great but the building seemed a bit old and claustrophobic for my liking.

Take care both of you, speak soon.

Cherina

Hi Ninimo and Welcome Cherina,

Yes, its a blessing to not be working although I wish I was closer to family during this time!!! I agree its tough to wait to start buying baby stuff its all sooo cute, but I too am worried about things happening in the early stages. I don't see my doc til week 11 when I'll have my down syndrome test done and I'm already anxious and nervous about it...as I'm 34 I guess the risks tend to be higher, but I hope all will be well and can't wait to reach week 12 : )

Right now my due date is predicted as July 1st, so I may be the first in this club!!! I have already started the process to get into Matilda, but as we don't have insurance we may check out Queen Mary as a back up. The costs are crazy, especially if there are any complications...

I would love to meet you guys as well, I'm free most days and nights so let me know what works best for you both.

I hope everyone is feeling well, I'm just starting to feel better with my nausea. I too have a little belly already, but I think its mostly bloating and an expanding uterus, as the baby is only the size of a raspberrry!!!

Hi Riley,

I know what you mean about the Matilda costs. It's not too bad for just the basic package but it's true that if there are complications it could easily top 100k.
It just seems so early to have to make the decision about which hospital, after all everything is so uncertain at this early stage. I really with I could wait until after 12 weeks but it's not possible here.

I think I'm about a week behind you, I'm just over 7 weeks now. Glad to hear your morning sickness is easing a bit now. I'm getting a bit sick but nothing too bad. Snacking on saltine crackers or cereal bars seems to help so I've got a stash in my desk at work. I've also developed a craving for mint chocolate, it's weird because I've never been that keen on it before.

I'm really busy this week but might be around on Saturday afternoon. Let me know if either of you want to meet up. you can pm me.

hi ya girls
mmorning! sorrie for the late reply! i am ( been) still suffering from a cold/flu!! Its horrible! Sore throat and blocked nose and cant breathe! Worst cant take any tablets or so for it! hubbie caught it and pass it to me! Now we are both sick! but i been resting whole weekend... hopefully it will pass!

i was told cold doesnt pass to baby! i hope not!! how have u girls been?
i am thinking of goign to hk baptist hospital.. n having the bb there........i am week 8 tomor!!

Hello,
Ninimo sorry to hear you've been so poorly, it really takes it out of you when you're pregnant. I was ill with a cold a couple of weeks ago and I just stayed in bed the whole day.
I've got a scan coming up on Friday, I'm really nervous because this is about the point where it went wrong last time. I know there's nothing I can do other than wait and hope but I can't help worrying.
I'm very busy at work at the moment, don't know if it's a good thing or not. I suppose at least it takes my mind off things.

Have you both booked hospitals yet? I'm hopefully going to book the Matilda but it's not confirmed yet. I hope I can get in because otherwise I'm a bit stuck for options.

Hi girls,

I hope you're feeling better Ninimo, rest is the best answer!!! Cherina, I apologize for not getting back to you as I haven't been online in a bit...let me know when you're free next so we can all try to meet up : ) Good luck with the scan, I'm sure everything will be great! My next one is the OSCAR test/scan on Dec. 21, I'm VERY nervous about that one and can't wait til its over...

My husband and I tried to view Queen Mary and Matilda over the weekend to mixed reviews. QMH had a tour going on but was strictly in Chinese, so we couldn't understand...when I called to try and book an English tour they told me I had to be an existing patient first, how do I know if I want to be a patient if I can't have a tour of the hospital???? Matilda was more of a hotel then hospital, although the traffic and ride up the peak were horrific!!! I wonder if anyone has delivered on their way up...anyway, the rooms were all booked so we couldn't peak in.

My OB/Gyn has started the process for Matilda and once we're notified they need a $20,000 deposit...decisions, decisions!!!

Let me know what you guys decide, hope everyone is feeling well : )

hi ya Riley
am feeling much better today so less of my complaining!
my ob also told me to book assap... but not 100% firm yet!
is the oscar scan.. at week 12? thats the big one right?

i be at week 12 by end of dec! i cant wait.. then i can tell every one..
i am fed up of looking so fat..... as least if i say i am pregnant - thats some excuse!

are u girls still v tired? somehow after hit week 7.5.. i am no long as sleepy or tired , esp at work!
or maybe the cold hit me too hard, i over slept and feel v energetic!

hope u girls feeling well!

Hello ladies,
Glad to hear you're feeling better Ninimo. Not tired is a good thing, especially if you're working.
Have either of you had a flu shot? My doc said I could if I wanted but I haven't so far.

I'm a bit tired but not too bad. Some days I'm just so hungry though, can't seem to eat enough!
I've got a scan coming up tomorrow so I hope the hunger is a good sign that everything's ok.

I saw the Matilda last week and thought it was really nice, I'm visiting again with my husband tomorrow. I liked the way they encourage you to keep your baby with you all the time, even in the ward rooms. I know many hospitals here only let you stay with your baby in the private rooms. There wasn't much traffic when I went but all the same I hope I don't go into labour in rush hour.

I'm praying the scan is ok tomorrow, I really want to be able to share some good news with my family in the UK this Christmas.

hi ladies :)

i just found out i'm pregnant a few days ago using a home pregnancy test and confirmed this at the dr's yesterday :) it's a little overwhelming actually, now that it's happened!

i've been doing a little research on this and other websites on hospitals to register at for the birth and originally wanted to go to Queen Mary Hospital as friends have recommended it and people have posted largely positive experiences about it. but as i l now live in Kowloon, i've leaning towards Queen Elizabeth, which also seems to be good.

my GP's given me two referral letters, one for an OB/Gyn in Kowloon (Alice Chan Man Yee), and for an Ob in central (Leslie Lo). have you girls heard of either of these dr's? did you go public or private for your first check up? what do they usually do during these sessions?

i don't actually know how many months i am yet as my period's been irregular, but my estimated due date is 31st July :) i reckon i'm probably about 4 - 5 weeks. i also work full-time but would love to meet up with you gals at some point!

Hello,
Wecome Toasty, I'm with a private doc that I found just from researching on the forums here. I've had fertility problems before and tried going with the public health service but it was just a nightmare, didn't get anywhere. But, if you have a straightforward pregnancy I'm sure it's fine. Sorry can't be of any more help.

My 9 week scan was fine, fetus measures about and inch. Just got to keep my fingers crossed for the next few weeks.
I don't think I look pregnant yet but I have definitely put on a lot of weight, can't stop eating at the moment!

Ninimo, good luck with your scan, let us know how it goes.

Hi everyone,

Welcome Toasty to the rollercoaster ride that is pregnancy!!! Glad to hear that your scan went well Cherina and I'm sure yours will be fine too Ninimo!

I had a bit of a freakout myself on Friday. The entire 9 1/2 weeks of my pregnancy were full of nausea and extremely sore boobs...When I woke up on Thurs. all my symptoms were gone and of course searching online freaked me out to possible miscarriage symptoms. I spent all Thurs night stressed out and ran to my doc on Fri. morning. Thank god she saw me and did a scan and everything is perfect! We heard the heartbeat and saw hands and feet : ) I 'm now just past 10 wks and have my OSCAR test booked for the 21st...can't wait til thats over so maybe I can relax!!

Toasty, I visited Queen Mary with my husband and were not impressed. the nurses didn't speak English and there visiting hours are very strict so we're digging into our pockets for Matilda. Let me know if Queen Elizabeth is better, on a positive note, they are supposed to have amazing neonatal care. Good Luck!
