Hi Everyone, I'm due April 2008. I have a nearly 2 year old. Kind of dreading those first few months of sleepless nights.... but I had my son in the UK, so I guess everything will be a bit different here. For one thing, I have my in-laws to contend with now and all their "helpful hints"!!! (I am English and my husband is Chinese!). I am also thinking that once I get a bit bigger strangers will be giving me advice too! They certainly don't hold back with suggestions on how to raise my son!

But I do love living here, I went to the beach this morning, wouldn't happen in October in the UK!

Hi Jo and mushi

My baby is due mid March, a bit earlier than yours. I have been here nearly a year. This is my first. I am having baby in Tai Wai in the Union Private hospital. I too miss family. It would be nice to keep in touch,
Julia

Hello Jo, Mushi and Julia66,

I am due April 11. This is my first and planning to give birth at QMH. How about the rest of you?

So far its been in uneventful pregnancy (which I am grateful for) but I am disappointed I am not really showing much yet!

Hi everyone!

What a great thread...

I am also due in April - around the middle of the month. I'd be curious as to how other women are doing as we are all into our fourth month right now... Namely, how are your appetites, and how much are you "showing"?

For myself, my appetite is still exactly the same as it was pre-preg, but my tummy is really starting to bulge. my work pants do not fit anymore and i'm reduced to elastic-waisted pants - yuck. not quite ready for maternity clothes yet, but definitely have a baby belly. it's just funny because i'm really eating nearly exactly the same as before. maybe even less as i can't gobble down as much in one sitting anymore. i'm about 5'5'' and 112 pounds before getting preg.

Would you ladies mind sharing how you are on the appetite and "baby belly" front? I'm so curious because until now I've had no one at the same stage to share this experience with :-)

Hi all,

I'm due early april and will be delivering at the adventist. This is my first and so far the pregnancy isnt too bad, not much morning sickness in the first trimester but just emtremely fatigued.

In the week or two, I've noticed a mjor increase in appetite, I just cant stop eating!! My pre pregancy weight was 105pds (i'm 5'4) and now I weight around 117!! bit of a worry....

I'm not showing quite yet, still fit into work pants but...not for long! :D

Hi Everyone!

Like JoTS and mushi, I too have a young one (he's 18.5mos now) and we're expecting our second in late April. I will deliver in QMH.

With this second pregnancy, I've actually had a "worse" bout of mornign sickness than with my first. It hasn't been as some would think (no vomiting at least!) but for the first 3 1/2 mos. I had no appetite. I was eating like a mouse. I actually lost weight. But the doctor said that as long as I was eating, both the baby and I would be OK. Only thing I didn't tell her was that while I didn't have an appetite to eat main dinners, I was craving (and sneaking in a bit) chocolate, chips, pizza, anything fried and tasty.

After I gobbled the last tin of pringles (in 3 sittings), I told my husband to keep a watch over me and my cravings. So far so good. Snacking a lot but have laid off the unhealthy things. If any of you have any advice as to how to get my appetite "back up there" baby no 2 and I would greatly appreciate it!

My belly is showing already - maybe it is because it is the second one. I remember not showing very much until I was 4.5 - 5 mos with my first one.

Hope everyone is keeping healthy and happy!

Hi all,

Just hitting 18 wks and I seem to go through days where I am starving all the time and other days where food is not so interesting. Also finally starting to show a little...my regular pants still fit but snuggly so I am loving my new maternity pants! They are a little big yet but comfy! No movement yet though....

I can't believe the half-way mark is almost there. I am suddenly worried there are all kinds of things I should be doing to prepare! Have any of you started taking antenatal classes yet or is it too soon? I have just heard that Annerly midwives classes are filling up so I guess I better call about those.

Hope all of you are feeling well!

Hi all

I'm due with our first around mid April. Booked into the Matilda. Nervous and excited at the same time.

I have an obvious bump but I think it's because I had hyperemesis and lost lots of weight so the bump sticks out more. I do love it though!

Food wise, I'm starting to get my appetite back. I read that ideally we should eat something every two hours because even if we're not hungry there's every chance that baby is. Doesn't need to be a full blown meal but a snack or glass of milk even.

Good luck all!

Hi everyone!

Cyberfish - I've been told my our OB and friends that it doesn't make sense to do any prenatal classes til about 2 months or so before you're due. I plan to do mine at Annerly also. Looking forward to it, and to meeting "others" like me. Maybe we'll be in the same class??

I am nearly 18 weeks myself, and my appetite is still pretty normal. I've actually been kinda looking forward to the surge, but so far I've not felt any need to eat more than before. I'm sorta taking the "listen to your body" approach which is easier and makes sense to me. Making sure I make very calorie count and not eating junk that my baby can't benefit from.

Definitely showing but still possible to conceal from strangers who don't look too closely. I'm booked in at Matilda too mid April.

Putput - who is your OB? We're with Dawkins, whom we're quite happy with.

Hi Clowe,

We've gone with Dr Sally Ferguson who has been really lovely. We were with Christine Choy initially who was nice however she gave me way too many pills to pop and couldn't explain why I had to take them all. Turns out they made my hyperemesis worse.

Re. ante natal classes, a friend started them as soon as she was three months pregnant, however we've been told to start them in January. I guess it'll be at Annerley. It'd be cool if we were all in the same class!

We moved here about 15 months ago and have a good network of friends but it would be nice to be able to share this experience with people going through it at the same time! Things like maternity clothes shopping etc!

Hi everyone, I too am booked at Matilda with Dr Dawkins. He has been really great so far. I have my 20 week scan on Thurs - a bit nervous but kind of looking forward to it too!

Not sure I will bother with any antenatal classes - do people normally do any with their 2nd baby?

Jo

Hi JoTs

Hubby and I are planning to go for a refresher course in breathing and birthing positioning - just in case! Don't think we're going to take all the pre-birthing classes though.

Cheers!

Hi all,

I'm a first timer to Geobaby. Also due in April of next year, on the 24th with my first, a boy. I'm booked at Matilda Hospital and have been seeing Dr. Ghosh who has advised me not to take pre-natal classes until much later in my pregnancy. However, I have heard from friends with children that the pre-natal classes aren't necessary, especially after the first child.

Pregnancy has been treating me fairly well and actually have traveled quite a lot for my job. I haven't had much morning sickness but was extremely fatigued especially during the first trimester. For the past few days, I've actually decreased in appetite but I'm still snacking frequently. Have the same thought as Putput that although I'm not always hungry that my baby needs it even if it's just a little bit.

Although I'm not showing to most, I am steadily growing a little basketball in front of my body. Also sleep at night has been a bit interrupted since pre-pregnancy I used to sleep on my back and now have to turn from side to side.

It's really great to see others on this forum that are due in April as well. Although I happen to have many friends who are pregnant or just had their first, it seems they are already at a stage beyond when I'm still getting used to being pregnant!

hi there,
i am on for both adventist and matilda though adventist is now asking for a deposit of $20000, non-refundable......i would not mind paying it but i always have this fear..what if i cannot go to adventist for my delivery for some reason and my money goes waste then??

I may have this wrong but we were deciding between adventist and matilda, and chose matilda. I asked my OB's nurse what would happen if, for any reason, we couldn't get our bed at matilda, which is a rare situation but still could happen, and she said they would then check with adventist to see if we could get a bed there. Not sure if this helps to know at all or if this is a genuinely what happens but thought i'd share what i was advised anyway!

Hello,
My wife is due April 13. We just moved here and have been told that we can't get into a private hospital. Does anyone know anything about Queen Mary hospital? Is it good? Is it safe? Can you have your own doctor do the delivery? Thanks.

Who told you that you can't get into any private hospital in April? That sounds like something you may want to get a second opinion on...

Re QMH, there are some great threads in this forum about people's experiences so just scroll down the list of topics and look into them.

Re your own doctor delivering at QM, I don't think so, though it depends on who your doctor is. Most private OB's here only deliver at private hospitals and QM would have a team of their own docs. Best to call them and find out.

No Private Spaces

I have been in England for 7 weeks and had my 12 week scan on Monday I am not due till June 15th but was told on Monday there are no private hospital places left at all for June and I would have to use a government hospital. As you can imagine this was a shock to me and I was more than a little annoyed as I'd seen this doctor at 4 weeks for an ectopic diagnosis (or not) scan and he knew then I would be in England till week 12.

My doctor was eventually able to find the only hospital with spaces left - Union in Sha Tin (not ideal as I live in Happy Valley) I am just glad to have a space though. Although I have no idea yet of the quality of the hospital.

If you do hear of a way to get spaces at a later date please let me know how because ideally I would prefer one of the hospitals on HK Island.

Thanks and good luck in your search - I know how scary it is when doctors are telling you there are no spaces etc etc
