Anyone delivered in Hong Kong Adventist?

If I could choose again, I would never choose Hong Kong Adventist. So terrible, I can not know which kind room I will be in. And they raised pricing after I paid the deposit which is not refuned. I worried if they will give me VIP room. The cost is out of control. Is there anybody just delivered at Hong Kong Adventist? can you get Ward room or Semi-Private room?
 
i will be delivering there too in August...one fact though in HK is that you don't know which kind of room you will get - until the day you deliver and you will be given the option of whatever is available - that happened in both Matilda and HK sanatorium...the VIP room, from what I heard at the adventist is very hard to come by so i don't believe that will even be an option. would love to see what others experiences are though...
 
I delivered in Adventist last November and had a great experience. Would definitely go back there if we're still in HK when it's time for baby no. 2.
I asked for a private room when we made the booking and I ended up staying in a private room. It's true that they cannot guarantee your room type in advance as it all depends on their availability on the day you check-in. That however is the case for all private hospitals, as far as I know. However, I don't think that they will put you in the VIP room if you asked for a ward room since it's obviously a huge price difference. From what I've heard, it's rather the case that they might downgrade you to a lower category than what you've asked for.
 
Thanks for replying me. I heard other private hospitals can book room type and my doctor will charge me huge if I am in VIP room. I prefer ward room since my doctor will charge according to room type but HK adventist just has 1 ward room with 5 beds. now I pray that donot push me to VIP room at least. I hope the thing like your guys said VIP room is hard to be in.
 
I gave birth at HK Adventist last August 2010 and had a great experience. I was in the 5 bed ward but on the second and third day there were no others occupying the rest of the beds. The nurses were really nice and took care of me really well.

I booked the ward but was told that there are no guarantees. It all depends on availability. Just hope you get lucky that you get the accommodation that you want.
 
At Matilda, you pay for the room you booked, so if you book a 4 bed room, and they don't have space, so put you in a private room, Matilda still only charge for the 4 bed. If you book a private and they don't have one and put you in a 4 bed, you get charged for the 4 bed.

I cant comment on how the Obs charge if you're upgraded though. Probably depends on the Obs. I think it's pretty unreasonable to charge more if you get a free upgrade though.
 
the HK adventist told they will always charge highest standard fee if they give me private room when I am in even I find ward room has space. Thanks for your sharing. That is the fact I have to accept.
 
I will be delivering at the Adventist on the 5th of Aug and i do think its quite unsettling to not know what room you will be in! At least I know its a C Sec and that makes things a bit more 'expected'.

We are booked at the Matilda and were told when we did the tour that if we are upgraded we will have to pay the price of the upgraded room.....
 
I asked if I can come one day before my booking day because I might have a desired room when someone check out. But the HK adventist said NO, I must be there 3 hours before booking time, no early no delay!

This is a completely normal policy at any hospital anywhere in the world. Why on earth would a hospital allow a healthy person to check into a hospital room FOR NO MEDICAL REASON a day before a planned procedure (assuming you are having a c-section)?
You seem very preoccupied and worried with the cost of this delivery and should perhaps consider booking through the public health system. The quality of care is high, if a c-section is medically necessary for mother or child it will be performed, otherwise you will have a natural birth (supported by appropriate pain management, including an epidural if you request it) at almost no cost if you are a HK resident.
 
cost is another issue because it is unknown. I have to get to know it until that day. I registered at both private and public. the reason i booked private because I want to professional doctor and C-section which public does not have or can not choose. I want baby less risk so I thought c-section would be a way to avoid lack of oxygen problem.
 
Hi appledai, which public hospital would u be getting into if u choose the public route? Probably worth getting some idea about people's experience if u haven't asked in an other thread already. I went to Queen Mary and had a great experience all in all. Got out of the hospital after only paying a total of HKD350 (admissions fee of HKD50 and HKD100 for each night I spent there). Paid a couple of hundreds more as my son had jaundice and heart murmur so needed special care+specialist.
The last thing u need is to stress about money matters... My friend who went to a private hospital prayed the baby to arrive on a normal day and the baby arrived on a public holiday and they got charged public holiday surcharge! Lucky already as baby and mum haven't got complications and touch wood if there were complications then the number would rocket sky high!! Private hospital doesn't equal no complications so be prepared for that...
 
Hi Anne, the public I registered is eastern hospital. I keep it as an option if baby comes earlier than planned. the only reason I booked private is for c-section as I am so so so scared that bb encounter lack of oxygen problem that affect brain.
 
I'm guessing if u look for horrible cases then I'll find it exists in both public and private hospitals. Understand your concerns. Just not sure c section could guarantee issueless delivery though.
The doctors in Queen Mary did the right thing to put a thing on my son's head, not to suck it out but to hold it so he wouldn't slide back in once I relaxed (I didn't push hard and long enough to pop my son out even though for every push the doc and my husband could see the top of his head already). My son came out after 2 more pushes. There were a lot of things for the docs to consider what needs to be done. I remember there were loads of people around some encouraging me and some discussing the situation and I felt like we were in good hands. I would choose public again if I have a second one.
With uncertainty of how much adventis is going to cost and from the sound of it your family is quite concerned with the expense, if it's stretching your family's budget even on the basic quote I do suggest u to stick to public. Touch wood anything happens the money issue is going to haunt the family for a long time (someone I know still complained about how much her DIL spent in private hospital after years!).

Thank you Anne. If good for baby, I said to my family I will pay by myself. Now I am struggling which is better way as everything is unknown. I will think more.
 
While it may be normal policy for hospitals not to allow patients to check in early for no medical reason, it is not normal policy everywhere in the world for hospitals to:
1. Require patients to confirm their hospital booking extremely early (before 12 weeks and sometimes as early as six weeks) and put down a deposit.
2. Pay a deposit based on a given price sheet and then be informed the prices have gone up but no refund if they choose to withdraw
3. Be bumped up to a more expensive room and be asked to pay not only double the cost for the room, but also double the cost for the doctor, and everything else. If you choose to not go with the more expensive room, you lose your deposit (which in the case of Adventist is HKD20,000), not a small amount. It is a tought call for awoman who has started labour may to do a u-turn and find her way to a public hospital having reached the private one and been told of the extra costs.
4. To charge people extra if their baby so happens to be born on a public holiday.
5. After all this expense, if there is a complication to ship people off to the nearest public hospital because the private hospital is not equipped.

Overall, this sitution is unfair and ridiculous. Yes, people can always go public but that the private hospitals seem to be on shaky ethical ground.

Appledai, sounds like you need to talk to someone about the pros/cons of both natural and c-section births. Both have positives as well as risks. C-section is major surgery. Have you done an Antenatal class? It might help you decide which way to go. Millions of babies are born naturally,
I'm not so sure why you're so concerned...
 
Right. so unfair. so angry when we were informed pricing up after paid deposit.

Hi AndreaSB. I actually did many research and understand goodness of natural delivery. In geobaby, most of you chose natural way, I go through some chinese forum, many moms chose c-section. It is the hardest thing to decide.
