Anyone applied ESF Kid (Sheung Wan) for Y2010?

We too have an play visit where we are required to bring our child in late Jan. We didn't have this with our daughter, so I am somewhat nervous about the process and whether it is a 'interview' or not.
I am not quite sure how they test/interview children this young or what they will base their decision to accept a child into the school on...
It certainly is stressful with the schooling system and the 'not knowing' whether your child will get in, even at such a junior level.

Total agreed. I am still waiting their reply until now, dun know when I will get inform.

Hi, all parents who applied should have received a letter in December to either say: 'Yes you are invited for an informal visit with your child' or 'No unfortunately there were too many applications and you are invited to join the waiting list'. You need to call the kindergarten if you haven't heard already. Which kindergarten did you apply for?
The process has changed this year a little. The informal visit is just to make sure your child does not have any severe special needs that the school does not have the ability or resources to cope with. It is not to 'test' your child in any way. They will be looking to make sure children can focus on a play activity for a while and that they can interact with their parents or others.
I hope this helps

You should call the kindy. ESF kindy across the board have started their play visit.

But then there are several "rounds" of letters that would be sent out, all the way till June.

With ESF, whether kindy or primary... it's better to have a back-up. Our back-up has already offered us a space and we paid the deposit. I know it's stressful.. and I don't think it's fair for us parents to go through the same thing in 2-3 years time all over again. But what can we do... it's the HK edu system.

We went for our play visit yesterday, thankfully it was not like the assessment at other kindy's in terms of the myriad of things the kids are tested on, but like another mommy said, they proably looked at whether there are special needs, whether kids are able to speak/understand English and whether the kid can interact, stay focused etc. I did see some assessment forms that teachers have to complete for each child.

I think there is also an assessment on whether the child can be independant from their parents, although I note that many parents stayed with their child in the play room during the assessment.

I called school today, the recp. said not EVERYBODY will receive the invitation letter, IF you haven't received the letter, that's means you are on waiting list, she said there are a lot of WAITING LIST, and she will send out ANOTHER letter to inform those who are on WAITING LIST.

I received a letter today offering my son a place in Hillside (where the Sheung Wan school is moving to). He had his interview monday.
From what I understand though, interviews are still ongoing as I know someone who is supposedly having an interview on the 27th?

My son has been offered an AM Session.
His informal visit was in the morning.

Is there a pattern to that?
I didn't mind what I got, although I have to say the AM session will make things a lot easier for me juggling my other child as well.

No pattern to school visit and session offered. We visited the school in the afternoon last year but were offered AM session

My girl had the informal visit on Monday afternoon, (25th), I just want to presume when can I get the offering letter:)

Basicly, when we went to the Abacus school visit.. Frances, the principal told us that if you are invited and the letter didn't say waiting list, they will offer a place as long as the child is true Cat 1 child and has no special needs that the school cannot accommodate. They did ask us our preference at Abacus, because with the new school time there (12:30 - 3:30), some parents actually prefer the afternoon session. We were offered AM class and needed to pay the deposit by mid-Feb. They respond very quickly and answer parents' questions. They did mention that many students leave at K2 to go to other IS reception classes and GSIS.

karenchan... I shouldn't worry too much about it. Good luck

Hi, recently went to the interview and wanted to know what are the opinions of the other parents who visited the school? Will you also be checking out the new site at Stubbs Rd next week?
Thanks!
