any open fields to play?

I know this is very unlikely, but I was looking for any parks that would have an open grassy area to play in. My son is 2 years old and loves to play soccer (football) and baseball but is too young for organized sport groups. I just want to find an outside area to kick and hit the ball with a bat (not too safe indoors). Anyone have any ideas where we can go?

Thanks,
Liz

I have no idea if it's true or how this works, but supposedly you can let the kids play at the Happy Valley racetrack when it's not in use. If anyone else has done this please let me know how it works.

You can't play actually on the race course- where there is no racing you can go in the middle of the racecourse (where the rugby and football pitches are and play there, although the pitches are often used for football, rugby and hockey when there is no racing).

In DB we have several 'fields,'- Siena Park, for example, has a large grassy area for kids to run around on, as well as a big playground there. In Siena 2, underneath the high rises there is more grass to play on.
DB might be a bit too far for you to go though!

battery park has an open space and BBQ area (on the walk up/down to the peak from Hatton Road, or beginning on Kotewall Road). its a walk though through the country park - you cant access by car

There's also King's Park in Jordan. It is used for sports tournaments and by schools.

Rani,
Thanks for the suggestion of King's Park. Jordon is close to us, so that just might work. Is it open to the public when tournament games are not in session?

To everyone,
Thank you guys for all of your help. I was not expecting to be able to find anything. Your responses were so helpful. I will probably even check out DB. My son would like the ferry ride over there. He will be excited to finally play some baseball.

there's a big piece of grassland in the middle of Victoria Park in Causeway bay. the grass is not as nice as the one at Happy Valley.

Another place with open areas is Cyperport. There is one park that allows kids and pets near the pier there. There is also another park at Cyperport 2 near The Meridian outdoor restaurant.

My estate, Tsing Yi, Mount Haven, have a grassland. I also have a boy at 2.5 yr old. If u come on Sat am, I can wait u at TY MTR. (I just want to find more playmates for my son)

Inspiration Lake by Disneyland also has beautiful vast expanses of grass. Great place for a picnic too if its not too hot.

I'm not sure if King's Park is open to the public....as far as I know, the rugby pitches there are jointly owned by HKRFC/Lesiure Department and you usually have to book it to use it. But you could ask. Or you could just go along on any given Saturday when there is rugby on- my son is usually playing on the grass!
The hockey pitches are astroturf and so not much fun for a toddler.

Another choice is HKUST (University in clearwater bay). It has a large grassland. Many children play there on Sunday.
