hi there

I am a first time mom-to-be expecting my bundle of joy in Jan 08...have jus relocated to HK from Spore. Anyone else due in Jan 08? :yeah2

i am due Jan 21st. we were all huddled in the Feb 08 post and never started a seperate thread for Jan 08. I am deliverying at HK Sanatorium (hopefully since there are all these horror stories of people not getting a bed even though they have a booking). Currently I am in my 28th weeks and having my checkup soon. Mine's a boy :) Where will you be staying in HK?

hey...happy to hear that you gals also due in Jan,
my due date is Jan 22, but i'm having c-section, so should be earlier. I think around mid-Jan.
In Santorium too...Maybe we'll meet up, wasabibunny.
:yeah2

Hi,
Another one due in January. I am due the 13th January - am i the first - Fennho you did not say when your due date was. I am hoping to deliver at the Matilda as we live Mid-Levels so nice and close. Cannot believe we are 6 months plus already, starting to have moments of panic now, feel completely unprepared for anything!!
However am also very excited and cannot wait to meet bubs. Do you all know whether it is a boy or girl?

hi ladies!

Glad to "see" u all here....

Wasabibunny...didnt know u all in Feb 08 thread...was a bit confused how come only got feb and no jan..haha

me EDD is 17Jan, but i'm not delivering in HK. Will be returning to my home country, Spore to deliver cos our relocation was confirmed AFTER we have more or less prep everything in Spore, ie hospital booking, gynae, and other arrangements. So, i will be flying back to SG in Dec to prep for my delivery and then returning with my darling after my confinement. Mine is also the first and it's gonna be a gal!!! *squeal* Dream come true...hehe

Where ru gals from? I reckoned u all have been here a long time already? me jus arrived in Oct. But we previously stayed in HK for about a year back in 2004 and now we're back. Pollution seems pretty bad these days...and everyone's wondering why we're back...with a baby to add! Anyway...need to find a good paediatrician here in HK once i'm back with baby. Is it wise to get a PD near to where we stay? Cos the PD my frens recommended is in Central and we're staying in Kowloon station.

Bun... are you having a c-section for medical reasons or personal reasons? Who's your OB? I am with Dr. Danny Leung who's stationed at HK Sanatorium. He's quite nice and vary helpful and replies to all my emails. My checkup has been pushed back to next week so my hubby can make it as well.

It is very odd being in my last trimester.... I keep wondering how much bigger I can get! I am planning to take some Yoga classes now that I am not working full time anymore.

I am Chinese but grew up in Canada. Hubby is Canadian. I live in Cyberport and the air quality is pretty decent out here.

What do you do in the confinement period? My family is not traditional at all so I always wonder what these traditions mean.

hello, we seem to have all the worries since the due date is getting close, and i'm starting to count down on my msn title too :p I just had 1 single shopping trip to get the essential stuff (so much more to get, but it was alot fun!). Althought, we window shopping alot.
opps, she's kicking me! sigh...

wasabibunny, hum...the reason why i want c-section is becuz of my personnal wish, but who knows...and i want to prepare well enough. And i hired a confinement lady to take care of me and my baby, I'm so worry about it, although i had an interview with her, but still, I know nothing about new born baby. But One thing, i like about her is she's not supporting the "ginger bath for the first 12 days" philosophy..gosh, i can't do that.

Yeah..i'm looking for a good PD as well, since all the suggested one are in HK side. Should we find one in Central too?
But the traffic will be too long for a little baby? : (

oh my OB is Jenny Ng ( She dosen't talk much!)

I haven't even started looking for a PD yet. How often will the newborn have to be checked up? monthly?

I just took my first prenatal yoga class today and it was like siting and laying in difference poses for an hour. It's very relaxed and I would barely call it exercise haha. It was fun to see so many other pregnant women though, but I arrived just on time and didn't get a chance to chat to anyone. I hope next time I'll get there earlier and the other mommies will be friendlier.

All you Jan moms have been so quite lately! How is everyone doing? My baby kicks so much harder now... it's like getting a mini beating every hour or two :) I am really excited about the birth although it's still 2 months away... doesn't it feel like forever? I hope everyone's well... also, Linea Nigra's having a 15% off sale since they just moved to their new location.
Here's a photo of my belly today :D :haha:

Hi all,

I am having a C-section...personal choice. I am due for the C-section on 11th Jan '08 at The Baptist Hospital. Totally no idea as to what i am in for as this is our first and it's a girl (still have these images of the doc telling us they got it wrong!). Would love to meet other Mums. I live in Tung Chung but Central is easy to get to for me. Would love to meet other new mums. We can all worry together. I worry when she kicks, i worry when she doesn't kick, blah blah...nice to share with you other mummies-to-be!

32 weeks

Hi All,

Trying to catch up with previous posts. I am originally from the UK and we arrived in Hong Kong in January, so still quite new. We do not know whether we are having a boy or a girl, so that will be a nice surprise. We got our first pieces of furniture on friday - a cot, drawers and moses basket and the pram and baby bjorn arrive tomorrow - very exciting. That is all that we have so far though, so baby needs to stay cooking a while longer!!
I am glad you are enjoying the yoga, it is really relaxing and i am finding some of the positions quite good for stopping some of the aches and pains that are beginning as i am getting bigger!
Speaking of which i hope i have managed to attach a picture of my bump at 32 weeks. I hope you are all keeping well and bumps are growing nicely, not long to go now ladies - happy counting down.

I have a silly questions... how do you attach a small picture? Do you first scale it down on your computer and then upload it online? i realize my photo is pretty large so I'd like to learn how to attach a tumbnail pic like you!

Hi Jan. Moms

My second baby (another boy) is due Jan. 20. We moved to Hong Kong yesterday from NYC and are staying in corporate housing in the Mid-Levels. I have my first appt. with my new OB this afternoon and plan to deliver at Matilda. We go apartment hunting tomorrow- very daunting task- focusing on the southside to live. I feel huge and the baby is kicking and twisting up a storm! It's really hard having an active 18-mth old to have to pick up and stroll around, but trying my best.

Kendal

Wasabibunny - not sure how you get it smaller, mine just appeared on the page that size! Sorry!

NYCMOM - welcome to hong kong!! good luck with the house hunting. Not the easiest of jobs anyway, let alone with a little one and a big bump!! Hope your appointment with the ob went well.

Hi all Jan mommies....
Yeah...the kicking is getting serious...haha, sometime i miss it tho. She just likes non-stop kicking while i'm trying to sleep. Maybe she don't like the silence. And she loves to sleep while i'm in offcie. It could be more easy to fall asleep when i'm moving around...like we're on the car ride..haha silly me Got a cute white cot for her, and start buying stuff from here and there. (Do you know joining the Pamper's mother's club could get 4 months free memebership for Eugene?)
hey, how many of you will BF your baby? I definitely want to try, but i don't get any support from my family and friends. They just think it's way too tough for me....

Hey all! I thought I'd stick my nose in again and say a big 'Hello' from the Philippines!

Sorry not been round much, it has been a bit ...hectic here! I cant believe I am due in a little over 5 weeks! It is mental.

I just recovered from Dengue fever as well ... what bad luck hey? ... Luckily it was a mild form otherwise it could have seriously messed things up for me and the baba!

We have at least bought most of what we need now for the LO.

That Yoga sounds right up my street wasabibunny! I walked around a shopping mall for half a day today and then cleared out the nursery of boxes when we got home ... omg, I am so unfit, I am so paying for it now.

The little one feels like he is between my legs already - its like walking around with a watermellon between my legs! I remember it was like that in the last few weeks with my daughter! ...

... I just cant wait to meet him now ... so excited!

I am definitely planning to BF my baby until at least 6 months... although I hear is it very difficult if you have to return to work or have any other commitments. I think my minimun would be to exclusively BF for 3 months. The Yoga has been fun but it really don't help you get fit. Most of the modified positions for pregnancy are very low impact and mostly stretching and sitting positions. but I think it's good to open up my pelvic area and such. Unfortunately the center I am going to will be closed for most of Dec. I've been going once a week for the past few weeks now. My friends got my a cot and some baby stuff at my baby shower but I still haven't started buying anything. i don't seem to be "nesting" yet... but I guess I should get started on it soon before I am too tired to shop :P

all's quite on the western front? no much activity on these forums these days!! 7 more weeks for me... I am so excited... hope everyone's enjoying the last leg of their pregnancy.

Ugggghhhhh

Wasabibunny- so happy the ending is pleasant for you....I have been carrying my 29 lb. toddler around the mid-levels and feel just exhausted! We move to our new apartment at the Bel-Air (are you in phase 2 Wasabibunny?) in a few weeks and I can't wait!!!!

Went on a tour of Matilda hospital where I was told by my doctor's office I was to deliver...they gave me a lovely tour and then checked their list and I am not on it! Not stressful at all, ha ha. So now I have to speak with my OB (Dr. Ghosh) this week and find out what is going on and what I am suppose to do now. I am 33 weeks today and definitely feel like this baby will make an early appearance (I felt like I was about to give birth while walking up the 50 steps holding my son at HK Park playground today).

Also in the midst of hiring a helper, which is a very odd process to me being from the US. I always treated my babysitters like family, they ate with us, we all went to the park together, more like friends. I know this arrangement will be different, so I'm trying to think about that when I interview. Having someone living with you- I want to make sure they are a good fit for our family, but I understand from many people that you often go through one or two helpers at the beginning before you find one that really clicks.

Sorry for the long ramble. I hope all the other Jan. moms are doing well:)

Hey NYCMOM,
I got your PM a few months ago but I guess you haven't been online! Yes I am at phase 2 as well... it's like a giant playground around 5pm when all the kids get back from school form the schoolbuses... they are all sitting outside and running around. It's actually a little too much for me :) But I am sure your toddler will make many friends living at Bel-Air. Lot of mommies and strollers all around as well.
I am 33 weeks too and going to see my OB this Friday. I guess I should also reconfirm my booking... I am at HK Sanatorium but I am with an in-house doctor so hopefully all goes well.
As for the helpers, they are not perfect. My last helper was pretty good, especially with keeping house and cleaning but she didn't want to renew her contract when she found out I was pregnant. My new helper is a better cook but terrible around the house... I contently have to point out where she missed a spot or what she should clean. She's really nice but just unfortunately not that bright. The most important note is to find someone you feel you can trust, especially with a toddler and a new born.
