Allergy to Nurofen

Allergy to Nurofen and develop skin rash, has anyone with baby with similar situation?

My 8 month old had a cold and fever and we took him to the doctor last Saturday. We came home with a bunch of medicine but the only one we gave him was NUROFEN. Because it's anti-inflammatory and an lower body temperature. After taking three times this medicine, his fever was gone but he developed a rash on his upper body, face and baby trunk.

We took him to another doctor who is near where we live and his diagnose was that he is allergic to medicine and this Nurofen is the only thing we gave him.
 
hmmmm.... could it be that the rash is caused by the fever? that is another possibility.

i would go for a second opinion.
 
I know that roseola is veerryyy common following a fever in babies under one or two or something like that. It's just a rash on the trunk, sometimes on the arms/legs/face but mostly on the trunk. It only lasts for a day or a few days and is non-contagious... you can google it to find more info and pics etc...

IF the reaction wasn't severe, I would probably test it again just to see. Although if the reaction was painful for the baby, I wouldn't!! I probably would test with a reduced dose though... if it IS an allergic reaction you'd expect it to happen again.

A second opinion wouldn't harm, but if the rash is already gone it may be hard for the doctor to really comment on whether it was roseola (the most probable alternative) or whether it was an allergic reaction...
 
my son has roseola after a week of fever - ups and downs. a week later we saw lots of red dots on his upper body, we took to his doctor who prescribed fever med to him and he comfirmed that it was roseola. it was gone 2-3 days later. But when he was having fever for a week, some moms already told me to look out for any red dots so we were not worry when it turned out.

Second opinion is always not harming.

Carang, You are right. I went for a second opinion. I called the doctor, From HongKong at Union hospital, who prescribed us the medicine and described him the symptoms. He thinks it could be rosacea instead of medicine allergy. He thinks if the does not go away after 3-4 days, we should seek treatment again.

I think this diagnose is more like it.

The problem is we live in a Mainland city and most doctors here are professional, I would say. But the ones I have come across do not show too much sympathy for sick children and concerned parents. Most of them seemed very quick to diagnose and leaving us few instruction about what to do with the medicine they gave us. This is the case with the last one who claimed that it's medicine allergy.

Anyway, my concern now is that I already gave him already two times of the medicine prescribe by this Mainland doctor. I hope it does not hurt him.
 
It does sound like roseola, its so common as everyone says above. Both my kids have had it. I think the rash lasted about a week with the fever spiking and then coming down periodically. I give my son baby nurofen and think I gave my daughter calpol (paracetemol)

I actually took pictures of the rash and emailed to my doctor! (he thought I was a bit mad...but humoured me)
