I've just discovered I'm pregnant so I thought I'd better start being more careful with my drinking water supply. Previously I've been boiling the water for drinking but after reading various articles apparently a filter is best. Does anyone know where I can get the reverse osmosis filter system? or any other suggestions would be appreciated. thanks!

Gl70,

:congrats:

Not sure where you can find the filter.

I drank boiled tap water throughout my pregnancy and didn't have any problems.

Very important Folic Acid. Get some ASAP.

When I first got here, I insisted to the DH that we should buy a water filter. We bought the most expensive one that Fortress sells (that fits on the tap). What a waste of money. We spent $700 and it now sits in our cabinet. We just buy bottled water, now, but I don't see why boiled water wouldn't be just as good.

One thing to note is that bottled water doesn't have fluoride in it, so if you are giving kids bottled water you may also want to give them fluoride tablets.

In my humble opinion

I think it wouldn't really matter much as of the moment whether you drink boiled water or bottled water. ALthough HKG water has a high level of chlorine.

Filters are a big waste of money. Just buy bottled water if you want to. Mineral in my opinion is better than distilled.

I'd be interested to know why val23 considers water filters to be a waste of money. Is that based on scientific fact or personal opinion? The international water industry has been using filtration as a successful means of treating drinking water for decades - have they been getting it wrong all this time?
Also, on what basis to you conclude that bottled water is a more healthy choice? Is this down to the misconception that bottled water is better for you?

I am a chartered water engineer and my family and I use a tap mounted water filter and Im happy with that arrangement.

Hi ag1, I was wondering (as you probably know more about this!) have you heard of the reverse osmosis filter system? any thoughts on that would be most appreciated.

"Reverse osmosis is a process in which the incoming (dirty) water is forced through a special cellophane-like RO membrane under elevated pressure. The hole size in an RO membrane is less than 0.0002 microns (2 Angstrohms). "
